Well, I contacted David Levy and asked him about Triomphe, Counter Gambit and Yeno 301XL. Here is what he said:
"
So far as I can remember the 8-bit Chess King products used the Richard Lang "Cyrus" program. The 4-bit products used, I believe, a Mark Taylor program which was based on an algorithm I developed a few years previously.
I cannot be 100% certain of thos efacts but if you can tell me the markings on the ICs in your Chess King products I can confirm those details.
I am almost certain that frans Morsch did program a 6301 Hitachi chip.
"
So I sent him the markings..
Waiting for Reply Regards
Michael

And here is David's answer:
"In that case please ignore what I said. This is a 6301 program which I think was written by Jon Green, but I cannot be 100% certain. At my age my memory is not what it used to be."
Does anybody know of a chess computer program by Jon Green?
"He worked for me for a few years."
Well, that's it.
Lost my Bet Regards
Michael

Well SteveSteve B wrote:Perhaps Bryan Whitby can track Mark Taylor down?bataais wrote:We will never know, unless David Levy or the original programmer speaks out.
hes usually good at tracking these guys down for an interview
here is a post of his from the CCC 20 years ago...

and i think this might be Mark Taylor playing chess online...

Unfortunately this time I just can't track himdown.
I did managed to track down the Mark Taylor who you thought might have been him playing online but it wasn't him.
After his time with Intelligent Software, Mark appears to have been employed as a general PC games programmer and adviser but after that nothing.
Maybe he died?
One thing I did uncover was a guy on Linkedin named Hal Bogner. This is what he wrote that might be of interest to some of us here.
Chess advisor to David Kittinger, Novag Chess Computers, 1980-82
- wrote opening libraries for Novag Savant and Novag Constellation chess computers
- developed new approach to seeking open positions, leading to the first 2000+ rated chess computer, the Novag Super Constellation.

I doubt mark taylor died. I saw him posting in the internet about chess programming in 2016. it was without any doubt mark taylor. He talked about an anecdote with levy and intelligent chess. This identifies his common name up to 100% for sure.
Also he was a member in the ccc talkchess forum. But that’s long time ago.
But you find reference in old archives. I would also like to talk with him.
Let’s try to contact him.

Re: Chess King Triomphe
Jon Green in Levy's own words was a "good solid programmer" and lived in Bedford, England.
Re: Chess King Triomphe
Now that the Yeno 301 XL rom has been read out, there is another clue in it:
Visible with a Hex_editor, at offset 0xBBC:

Maybe Chris Bray?

Re: Chess King Triomphe
Hello,
I asked Chris Bray about the programmer of Triomphe, Yeno 301XL because I found :
"...He has been playing backgammon for forty years after moving to the game from chess and bridge in the late 1970s."
His answer :
>> Sorry, my area of expertise is backgammon not chess.
>> Kind Regards
>> Chris
Cordially.

Re: Chess King Triomphe
Good morning all,
When I worked in Cambridge (2008-2013), I worked with Jon Green. He did mention that he had worked on a Chess simulator, but wouldn't go into details.
I can confirm that he does live in Bedford (England) and is a very solid programmer, and also very nice, quiet gentleman.
I am sure he wouldn't mind me adding his Linked-in details,

Hope this helps, Neil
