Nextgen HCE features
The nextgen HIARCS Chess Explorer will support its own database format, .hce which makes it possible to use very large databases (we are testing it on databases with many millions of games). It allows fast operations on databases and is an important basis for many advanced chess database features.
Nextgen HCE features
Hi Mark !
New database format (.hce) seems an interesting feature due to .pgn limitations. But what's about compatibility with .pgn format ?
960 Chess support is another great news.
Some questions :
• iPhone / iPad version ?
• Millenium ChessBoard support is interesting, but DGT ?
• And I'agree with ddlj81

Re: Nextgen HCE features
Well, I'm pretty sure it will still be totally compatible, there is no reason why they should remove existing support just because they introduce a native db system... I guess you will have the option to work with PGN directly or to import in the new format, just like Chessbase and Scidjldchess wrote:Hi Mark !

Nextgen HCE features: Support for Chessbase CBH format
The NextGen HIARCS Chess Explorer will support Chessbase CBH format.
This will allow customers with Chessbase databases to use them in HIARCS Chess Explorer. Customers will have the option to convert their CBH databases into HCE format so they can benefit from our new chess features.

Re: Nextgen HCE features: Support for Chessbase CBH format
Great news! Could you please tell us if we will be able to convert large PGN databases to Hiarcs native database format without opening PGN database?Mark Uniacke wrote:The NextGen HIARCS Chess Explorer will support Chessbase CBH format.

For example I would like to open databases from lichess website https://database.lichess.org/. There are several files that are larger than 8 GB. Hiarcs Chess Explorer 1.9.4. doesn't support large databases. I think we will not able to open very large PGN databases in Hiarcs Chess Explorer 2.0. Could you please give us an option to convert them to native Hiarcs format?
If this feature will be implemented, I can finally use lichess large databases.

When a database (PGN or CBH) is first opened we ask the customer if they wish to convert the database into HCE format. Once confirmed the database is converted and opened in a new tab.
For example, I opened the Chessbase CBH Mega 2020 database and I chose to have the database converted into HCE format.

Open CTG format opening books
Another NextGen feature is CTG book support so you will be able to use CTG books inside NextGen Chess Explorer. It also means the HIARCS Tournament book from the book subscription can be opened...

This alone is wonderful news and will make it well worth the wait Mark. I have a number of CBH databases with annotations etc and they are the only thing for which I keep a Windows virtual machine (parallels) running. To be able to migrate them over natively to Mac will make life so much simpler.Mark Uniacke wrote:The Mac version will also support Chessbase CBH and CTG formats as described above.
