Igor and Ivan the terrible - The same program?

Post by Celadus »

Both have identical user manuals. The opening books seem the same.

Do they both have the same programs?

Hi Celadus,

maybe you would like to read this post from Ron Nelson.

Hardware characteristics slightly differ between Ivan & Igor.
Unfortunately Ron's comment most probably relates to the microcontroller (MCU) itself (according to Hitachi hardware manual, check preface p.7)

Thus Ivan's program may or may not make use of additional ROM & RAM provided by its H8/3216. But as tuning hardware for lowest production price was part of the job, my guess is there are some differences within the codes.

Schachcomputer's Wiki-Elo-Liste lists Igor & Grandmaster at same rank - 1840 for Aktiv schach; while a very close 1845 is reported for Ivan.

So very same class program, anyway.
Regards
Tibono

Thanx indeed Tibono!
When I find the time I will try a comparison between the Ivan and the Grandmaster.
The Grandmaster should also have the same program.
Maybe Nick (Spacious Mind) already did that some years ago...
