Seems the MCGE has gotten 7 new opening books and a Firmware update
received an email from Millennium with a file and instructions
this brings the number of books in the computer to 9
anyone know if these new books are Hiarcs or Lang books ?
any info on the number of moves(positions) in each book?
Librarian Regards

So now the people / MCGE customers can run several new user opening books for interesting games and matches!!

Seems like an interesting Christmas gift.

Here we have a fairy tale of the day after tomorrow....

Hi Al

Installing the firmware update takes a good 10-15 minutes
when you send the firmware to clock it will display a message "searching for server"
just leave everything alone..dont click anywhere
eventually(a few minutes)you will see the installation progress % on the PC
I made the mistake of clicking on the send screen a few times before the installation progress began and it freezes the program

the problem is that there are NO new books
i dont have an option to send the books to the computer
it is greyed out
let me know if you have the same issue

Bookless Regards

Hi Steve,

I have the computer and the e-mail but can't try anything until the 25th, aargh!

Sounds like the update software is semi-functional but not user-friendly. It could be busy downloading the firmware from Millennium's server but not updating the display. Still, I think it's a nice Xmas present, provided the new user books are actually available. I believe it downloads - or should download - the books from their server and then transfer them directly to the chess computer. I guess they don't want people to examine the user book files. From an e-mail I received from Millennium, they told me the original plan was to allow users to create their own books, but considered the proprietary book format was too complex and any mistakes could break the machine, hmmm, shame.

An Empty Library Regards

strange way to release new books if your correct
anyway...also strange was the timing of this update
they release it late on Friday and then no one is around to answer emails from the users/owners until after the weekend..and they know there will be issues with the update
only causes frustration from the users/owners instead of satisfaction and appreciation that they received a nice free update...the exact opposite reaction Millennium was aiming for.
should have been released at the beginning of next week

Timing Is Everything Regards

From the PDF:

3.5.5 Available Book, and Send  Clock
This shows the currently available books on the server.

Perhaps they forgot to put the books on the server

I have to agree that releasing software on a Friday without support is

Not Good Customer Service Regards

could be the problem is just with me
why not try it?
i know you are waiting until Xmas..but you already opened the computer to test it right?
consider this another exception....more of a medical research necessity rather then actually playing with it and enjoying yourself

Temptation Regards

I would really like to help you out here, also to satisfy my own curiosity, but efficient as my Father is, he's already wrapped it up! I don't think he would be too pleased if I opened it up now.

I'm sure one of the other members will provide feedback soon, hopefully!

Frustrating Regards

Hello Steve ,

I know u do this

Active the CXG Update program
Then press the button Off on the CGE unit >USB Mode ,then connect the cable
Then connect in the CXG Update program >Connect
It should /must work and Software version and Books should be seen on the update screen
When i read u did already connect ,u should have the good cable
Of the Books , u can only upload 1 Book at the time ,so lets say Gambit Book
then u have to take User Book then this book is activated
when u want ,Spanish to u , u have to upload this again ,same procedure

The Gambit Book is really fun! i can tell u that

Hi Hans
you were able to download all 7 books?
i followed the steps exactly in the order you mentioned
only the firmware version box is active
in the box for "Current User Book "it shows.."NONE"
the drop down box for "Available Books"...is greyed out and i cannot click on it..not possible to send anything to unit
i will try a fresh update again..perhaps that will fix this

Re-Programming Regards

Just wondering if you have a firewall blocking the update program. That said, the firmware updated ok, so probably not.

i use Norton
whenever it blocks something or finds something it considers "suspicious" i get some sort of message
nothing popped up so i dont think that is the issue
i tried a re-install of the firmware..
the update program erased the new firmware and currently re-installing it
lets see if that makes any difference
