Hi all,

Mephisto Vancouver 68k v London 68k, Michael v Al was a win for White. A complete reversal of the 1st game, where the 1st move out of book 15 ..... Qd7 loses 2 pawns shortly after, then another 2 ...

Hi all,

The 68000 game Mephisto London v Mephisto Berlin is on hold, Steffen’s Berlin has malfunctioned after 19 moves and won’t boot, I hope he gets it fixed soon.

Cheers,

Al.

Hi,

Steffen sent his Berlin to Mr. Berger for repair. Just in case, I have a spare Berlin...

The tournament tables are up to date - sorry for the late update, I had a hdd crash.

Who is next to play? Regards, Michael

A fierce game of Mephisto Portorose 68000 - Mephisto Lyon 68000 seemed to end in a draw (rook endgame), but Lyon found a way to make a forced rook-swap-off, profiting of the last pawn alive....
One might think that Lyon really understood the right strategy of this game.

Both games are over. The repaired Berlin was highly motivated winning them.

Game 1: London - Berlin 0-1
After advantages in the opening the London continued without any ideas losing the game.

Game 2: Berlin - London 1-0
A very long game. Berlin gained advantage but moved only with rook and king, neglecting the attack with his passed pawns for a long time. Finally he saw his chance.

Walter and I just completed a game between Mephisto Almeria 68,000 versus Mephisto Lyon 68,000.

Well Mephisto Almeria 68,000 got lucky and was given a freebie win as a result of an unusual opening: Queen's Gambit Declined, Chigorin Varation that neither of us have experienced before with our Mephisto's.

Anyway here is the game:

[Event "Casual Correspondence game"]
[Site "https://lichess.org/z89naIhK"]
[Date "2018.01.28"]
[Round "-"]
[White "Mephisto Almeria 68000 (Spaciousmind)"]
[Black "Mephisto Lyon 68000 (istaparte)"]
[Result "1-0"]
[UTCDate "2018.01.28"]
[UTCTime "13:06:37"]

[fen]r3k2r/ppp2pQp/2b5/4n3/3q4/2N2PK1/PP2P1PP/R1B2B1R w kq - 0 13[/fen]

As you can see from the above position, it is a whacky opening where Black has sacrificed a piece in order to chase the white King across the board. From analysys this position does give Black a slight advantage. However where the developers of the Mephisto opening book messed up is that it seems that it is exactly in this position that Mephisto Lyon was out of book.

In this position 13. ... 0-0-0 is the correct move that gives Black a slight evaluated advantage, albeit being a piece down for the moment. Mephisto Lyon 68000 however played 13. ... Nxf3?? which results in absolutely zero compensation for the piece.

Therefore in hindsight I imagine the programmers of the opening book left Mephisto high and dry by finishing the opening book one move too soon.

Anyway as a result, easy win for Mephisto Almeria 68000.

Lichess Evaluation

https://lichess.org/z89naIhK

Mephisto Almeria 68,000
2 Inaccuracies
0 Mistakes
0 Blunders
15 Average centipawn loss

Mephisto Lyon 68,000
4 Inaccuracies
3 Mistakes
1 Blunders
36 Average centipawn loss
