I have just purchased the DGT pi chess computer and I am pleased I did.
As soon as I understood how to set the different options it all became very easy to use.
It has eight different engines and most have various level settings. Elo may be set from 800 to 3000 (StockFish 7 the strongest))
There are also fifteen different books to chose from for more varied play.

Just set the board up plug in the DGT pi and voila the game starts.
My only complaint is the games cannot be saved to pgn.

I did have one little problem however. I purchased my DGT chess board in 2006.
The cable ( 1.5 ft long) supplied with the DGT pi to connect the unit to the board had a male connector larger the female receptacle in the board.
Not really a problem I just used the 5ft cable originally supplied with the board.
I just have lots of cable on the desk.

I have ordered a shorter cable with the smaller connector from "mycable mart.com" in the us.

It is a little expensive but in my opinion well worth the money.

Hi,

The games are saved in the /opt/picochess/games folder as games.pgn and can be automatically emailed to you when the game is finished if you set the correct options in the /opt/picochess/picochess.ini file.

For answers to your questions see us in the PicoChess forums at:
https://groups.google.com/forum/m/?fromgroups#!forum/picochess

(Cut & paste the whole line above, not just the highlighted bit)

Cheers,

Al.

Hello friends,

The option to save the game in pgn was clarified by entering a specific command. But after playing, how to have access to the file in pgn?
Regards
Oswaldo

Hi Oswaldo,

I’ll assume you can use a terminal to log onto your Raspberry Pi & that you have a gmail account ...

You’ll need to edit the /opt/picochess/picochess.ini file and remove the # from the front of these lines and add your email details:

email = your-id@gmail.com
smtp-server = smtp.gmail.com
smtp-user = your-id
smtp-pass = your-password
smtp-encryption = True
pgn-file = games.pgn

Then when you finish a game the games.pgn file will be emailed to you.

Cheers,

Al.
