Will take a close look at Alain's schedule. It might mean we do a really early start in the US to accommodate European time. Hope Dave is up to it :)

Dave might need an early wakeup call - or stay awake from the night before ;)

One more word to Bavaria:
Hegener & Glaser ("Mephisto") used to be in Munich, Millennium is there, too. Zens was in Nurnberg, the International Spielwarenmesse (toy) fair where all new chess computers were presented year by year, too.
The chess computer tournaments Kaufbeuren and Klingenberg are also located in Bavaria. The heart of the Mysticum project, too.
Bavaria, the paradise of chess computers :)

My ability to function that early in the morning is directly related to the amount of coffee I can drink before the first move....

Can I have a wake-up call at 5:00?....regards,
Dave zzZZ

ps: I suggest we use Lichess for the games. It is very user friendly, includes in-game chatting and observers can watch a game in progress.

So far we have the following official entries:

Dave C
Ricardo
Steve B

30 Minute Game Countdown
Having looked at Alain's site, I suggest we make this Tournament a 30 Minute Countdown tournament. So each game should be finished allowing for operator time within 90 minutes. This way we won't have any delays. If a computer were to run out of time, he loses.

This means that the games should be finished in about 90 minutes. This allows 30 minutes to prepare the next round schedule.

5 Round Swiss

Time Zones and Game Start Times
  • PACIFIC---CENTRAL---EASTERN---VENEZUELA---ENGLAND---GERMANY
    04.00------06.00------07.00-------09.00----------12.00--------13.00---
    06.00------08.00------09.00-------11.00----------14.00--------15.00---
    08.00------10.00------11.00-------13.00----------16.00--------17.00---
    10.00------12.00------13.00-------15.00----------18.00--------19.00---
    12.00------14.00------15.00-------17.00----------20.00--------21.00---
Sorry Dave I know its going to be tough, but on the bright side your games will be finished early as well :)

ps. I am also open for a Blitz tournament, ie... something like 15 seconds per move.... Open to suggestions...

Best regards
Nick

HI Nick
not sure what you mean about Alains Site?
the Paris games were 30 Sec Avg..not Game in 30?
at least for the years I participated
perfectly fine with me if everyones computer has a countdown level

T Minus 30 Regards

Hi Steve,

I looked at Alain's site to look at the time between games which was 2 hours. Yes I know you played 30 seconds per move,

When playing online though with a lot of people 2 hours between Rounds is not quite enough. Last time we did this, it was 2.1/2 between rounds and it was a stretch to get all the games completed and the next round schedule posted.

I know you played your matches online when you played Alain's tournament. But you were just one. A dozen people playing online is much more prone to time overruns. Hence my suggestion to play 30 minute games or Blitz.

I could recalculate the schedule with a 2.1/2 hour spacing to accommodate 30 seconds per move but that would mean Germany might have to start their last round game at 11.30 at night. Which also might be challenging. Or poor Dave C might have to start his first game at 3.00 in the morning for a last round start at 10.30 at night in Germany, France etc :)

Best regards
Nick

I hope all of this is not because of my requirement to play all of my games in one day?
seems like it is creating an unnecessary burden..which I do NOT want to do
if so....I will very easily revert to watching the games..perfectly happy to do that

if not.. then any time frame you suggest is perfectly OK with me
my only request is we don't allow modified computers to play

Don't Want To Bollox Up The Tournament Regards

No, I think everyone would be happy to get this done in one day. Besides, it would be quite an online challenge to show it can be done.

Challenges is what we live for.

What I need to know from our European friends is if they are amenable to the last round starting closer to midnight. If yes, then I also would prefer 30 seconds per move since this is what most people here are used to playing. And of course if our Western USA people are OK with a very early start.

Best regards

Maybe Steffen is right....I'll just skip sleep that night....and sleep after the 12:00 game ends.

Also, I like games at 30 seconds per move too.

Regards,
Western USA people
