I'd never heard of Chris Whittington. Holy crow, now I have to find this engine:

https://chessprogramming.wikispaces.com ... System+Tal

I have it on my mobile phone. As dos emulation.

I am very intrigued - and I didn't know until now about your involvement with the Tal program. Much respect to you. Searching online for ROMs, and even on auction sites for a copy of the original software.

A new book by GM Vladimir Tukmakov, "Risk and Bluff in Chess," examines the same ideas. I understand the power of brute force, but I am fascinated by Whittington's approach, and eager to test-drive the program.

I would go for the dos version. It has more features and more insight
Into the process of computation.

If you somewhere have an old dos capable pc, it makes sense to get a copy of CSTAL DOS.
The windows version has not so many features.

Since almost all my new laptops have windows 10,
I do use dos programs on my mobile phones using the app
"Magic dos box".

So I do have my favorite dos programs all with me on my mobile phone and
Can use them whenever I like it.
