Fid. Excellence 6080 opening bug

Post by Tibono2 »

Hello,
an easy to win game opening from Excellence 6080 as white (mine being 3Mhz):
1. c4 e5
2. Nc3 Nf6
3. Nf3 Nc6
4. Nxe5 ??

It must be a ROM bug as book's black answer is 4 .... Nd5, offering back a knight (and next opening moves are blunder as well).
Alternate #4 white opening move from Excellence book is: 4. Nh4 ?

Issue fixed in the EP12 book: it plays 4. g3 or 4. d4 (Tested with CB-Emu, I do not own this one).

hi
could you open you 6080 to see what is the reference of the ROM ?
something starting with 101.xxxx

what is strange is that 6080 came after EP12.
so it is as if Fidelity introduced a bug , and not, as you think, corrected a bug.

with the ROM reference we could identity which one came first and which one came second.

hi,
ROM is 101-1072B01; card 510-1099B01 Copyright 1986
S/N 63183181
Thus an introduced bug, I didn't notice the EP12 was first. Thanks to have pointed it out.

Hi
I Hope you dont mind me joining in this thread.
This is interesting.I looked at my 6080 and EP12 and here are the details.

6080......101-1072B01
EP12......101-1072A01

So it appears the "bug" has indeed been introduced.
It'll be interesting to see other ROM versions from other forum members.
Hope this helps.
regards

the first EP12 (3Mhz) had ROM 101.1072A01
you say it hasn't the bug

the 6080 (3Mhz) had ROM 101.1072B01
you say it has the bug

last week i received an EP12 4Mhz, coming from USA, which has ROM 101.1073A01.
s/n : 60106998

that last ROM has been introduced in MAME emulator last week.
i don't remember it it is already in CB-Emu.
so you might try to test the latest set to see if that bug is removed in ROM 101-1073A01.

regards.

the "near next ROM" are the one that is in Par Excellence or Designer 2000.

there are both already in MAME/CB-EMU.
so it is possible to see it Fidelity corrected that bug in par excellence and designer 2000.

Hi,

where can I find the CB-EMU ?

A google search returned too many links to sort out.

Thanks,

Thanks again.

I understood I have to keep the "rom" files as zip. However, when CB-Emu does not find the chess computer I am looking for (like Fidelity Par Excellence or Designer 2100), how can I fix that ?

If you have copied all ROM files (in zip-format) into the right folder (CB-Emu\roms), then CB-Emu will find each of them.

That was a previous update - not needed if you've download the last full CB-Emu from the link I posted above.
