As i mentioned in an earlier post above
i did not perform this miracle
another person did it ..but yes...my understanding is a brand new display screen was used and the Savant was adapted to work with it

Just The Messenger Regards
Steve
And why can't we do it all in the same way ?
I Guess you could if you know how to do it
as for me...i would be...

Mephisto II wins the coin toss and will play with the White pieces
Neither computer has a level of exactly 1 Min./ Avg.(my preferred TC for matches) so i set the M2 for level C5(Beep On ...always play BEST move...90 sec.avg)
Savant was set to level 3(45 sec.avg to 90 sec.avg)

In The Game...
Savant was out of book at move 12 .. M2 at move 13
even though the opening was a main line Ruy Lopez i am still surprised at how deep the books are...
both sides play reasonably until move 36 when the M2 commits a blunder falling into a 6 ply tactical shot ..the result is the loss of a B for a P
Savant dosent find the most efficient way to win from here but it does slog its way slowly but surely to draw first blood

Savant Announces A Mate in 2 here
well actually it does not mention the number 2
rather...it signals an imminent mate by flashing the Mate box in the upper border of the display screen

Hi Steve,

Well that seems to confirm the rating that Savant is a little stronger than Mephisto II.

Best regards

In The Second Game...
M2 was out of book at move 7.. Savant at move 8
M2 wins a P at move 28 and it looks like its about to win a second when on move 35 it blocks a back rank check with its B(instead of moving away) which cripples its position
Savant's ensuing play is spotty allowing the M2 to possibly pull off a draw when on move 46 the M2 gives Savant a "welcome back" gift by stumbling into a mating net

In The 3rd and final Game...
M2 was out of book at move 9.. Savant at move 11
M2 offers little resitiance in the game dropping p's left and right
By move 36 Savant is up 3p's making the win a matter of technique

Savant II....
I Removed the Red/Orange Eprom(5th eprom slot) from my defective Savant II and placed it into the new Savant
this eprom upgraded the Savant to the Savant II with an additional 8kb ROM

Image

the upgrade consisted of:
Larger Opening book
slightly different playing levels
ability for Savant to underpromote to R and B
stronger middle and endgame play(supposedly)

The Game below is the very first game ever recorded for a Savant II on the Net:

Savant II was out of book at move 7...TSB 4 at move 8

[Date "2017.1.23"]
[White "TSB 4 La Regence"]
[Black "Savant II"]
[TimeControl "1 Min./Avg."]
[Result "1/2-1/2"]

Another First On The Net...
two Savants play each other..

Savant II was set to level 3(30-60 Sec. Avg.)
Savant was set to level 3 (45-90 Sec. Avg.)

Both computers were out of book at move 6
Savant II annihilates its weaker and older brother
by move 26 its up a R+P for nothing
looks like that extra 8kb Rom Eprom makes a difference

Savant II flashes that now familiar imminent mate alert box

Anyone care to opine as to how i was able to play two Savants against each other?
the only new Savant i have is this one..all the rest are defective
