1.Nc3 is !?

Steve can you give us any clue as to what opening book the Res will use and will it be an optimised tournament book?

Steve can you give us any clue as to what opening book the Res will use and will it be an optimised tournament book?

each engine in the Res has its own book similar to the PC version
so for example if i were using Rybka it would have Noomens book
if Toga..then the Toga's book
etc etc
i dont know exactly how large each book is
but i know its a standard book and there is no way for me to change whatever book is in the program except for me to turn the book on or off

This is my view on how we could approach the game

1. d4 and play for a closed game

1. Nf3 and play for a king's indian attack but keeping the centre closed

or
1. e4 which will probably lead to an open game of some sort.

I see the vote is going the way of 1.e4, given this, a King's Gambit appeals or maybe a smith morra, or even a 1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 closed sicilian.

I see many people mentioned their first move BUT what is your intended strategy and plan, if we just play moves without a plan we will have a really hard time.

Thoughts welcome...
Best wishes,
Mark

My move:
e4, with a puff of smoke blown in ResII's face :D

Just read Mark's post, and I fully agree. It's a great idea to come up
with sort of strategy between ourselves.
A lot of us are probably well booked up on some Ruy Lopez lines, and
I tend to think that's our best chance.

Interesting, I often favor the Ruy Lopez Exchange Variation against 1. ... e5 with a dedicated computer... helps most of the time to garantee at least a draw.. but since Res II is black I guess it will decide the strategy with it's reply.

God it's hard to be just an observer.. :D

All the best

ps.. Steve .... yes as much as I love dedicated you are on your own in this game :P
