The Spirit of the match as I See it as the captain

Post by Fernando »

My dear fellow players:
I do not pretend to impose nothing, instead just to play as you and then, at most, to take a decision if candidates moves are paired.
Nevertheless, I have an idea I would like to share with you and I can resume it in just one sentence:

NO ANTI COMPUTER CHESS!!!!!!

Why?
Because in my opinion the purpose of this game is twofold:
a) to enhance our common friendship, being part of a team
b) to get lot of fun.

Clearly for this last purpose, anti computer chess is not useful.
Men, what matters if we lose or win?
The core of this is fun and fun presuppose REAL challenge.
If I can decide, I would like to play a clear e4 line, with all the tactical tricks we can muster against the machine and all the finesse we can think to oppose his tactics. And of course with all the subtle strategies this old line make possible.
Are you with me on this or not??

Captain regards

I'm happy to go with e4 even though I'm a d4 man!

It will probably help my own repertoire at the same time!

Game on regards

Hi everybody,

I think that machines that have ratings above 2300 are tactical monsters so i suggest to choose a positional game.

Of course we can play positionally, in fact there is not other way to play, exception made when there is a clear tactical shot at hand, BUT my point is not to hide behind a wall of any kind "a la Pablo Restrepo". I do not see fun in that.
I prefer to be gloriously beaten than to get a point from an ambush in the bush.

1.e4 is the opening with which I won yesterday evening against my ARB Sargon 3.0, so it is fine for me too...

although I guess that Res II will be a stronger opponent regards

e4 is ok. but we give RES II a lot of options (e5,c5,c6,e6..) there will be a fast develop of pieces and can maybe come up with some tactical shots but it will be a lot of fun , with d4 the game wil be slower and more positional for me, e4 or d4 will be ok.

e4,d4 regards

Ah, ignore my other post, clearly in the wrong thread.

Whilst I am happy to start 1.e4, what is the considered view on what black will play? I ask as I have no experience on what to expect from RES II. The reason I ask is that it would be good to know our plan! :-)

hi David
the Res II is equipped with seven engines as follows:
Rybka 2.2
Fruit WC 05
Fruit 2.1
Toga 1.2
Toga 1.0
Deep Sjeng 1.8
Ruffian 2.1

to learn alittle about your opponent read here:

http://hiarcs.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=330

however the engine i am using is being kept a secret until the game is over
each engine has its own book

Well I'll be blowed! I switched on my London 030 to follow the game and after the start up beeps the display showed "I'm rootin' for ResII"
So it looks like a brotherhood of machines ...
Heck ... they must be human after all.
Let's hope the ResII doesn't make any brief disappearing acts to the WC.
Anyone independant auditors checked it for Wi-Fi or Ethernet connections?
