Yes
a "w" placed after the Fen string will force White from bottom
here is the Fen String i used...

I am trying to get tickets for the final game, but the scalpers are brutal, and the security team is refusing bribes.

Rooting for R-40 to pick a solid opening that goes deep in the books.

Glad you are following the match
i am a bit amazed at the large number of emails and PM's i have received asking for the last and final game of this epic encounter between these two titans of computer chess

OK..waving aside emails from family and paid employees (whose job depends on watching the match) ..yours was the first ..still i appreciate the interest

actually i wanted to complete the match over this Thanksgiving weekend but taking a cue from the striking Walmart workers who refused to work on Thanksgiving..both computers staged a sit in and would not power on
My Negotiations with the union bosses are ongoing and i expect the final game be posted soon

Well its good to see a wooden chess computer other than a Fidelity crack the $1000 ceiling
i guess this thread on piece recognition boards is having an impact
:P

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Raritat-Mephist ... 1030453938

Of course the wooden koffer is worth a few hundred dollars by itself but lets not get too bogged down with details

The Final ..Match Concluding ...Sudden Texas Death Match..Game 6

Both Computers are out of book on move 8
Bavaria once again accepts a Gambit P
at move 29 R40 wins the exchange but at the expense of a doubled P

Although the R40 is up the exchange it cannot make any progress
at 1 Min per move there is no way it can win this game
for the past 30 moves or so each computer has been shuffling its only remaining piece so i called it a draw

FINAL MATCH RESULTS
London 030 vs Tasc R30(v2.2) 2-1
London 030 vs. Tasc R40(v2.5) 1-2

It seems fitting to end the match here as a draw
In doing so both legendary computers will now be forever retired as equals .. locked away in subterranean vaults..deep below the Earth's Surface ... each stepping aside for the arrival of the more powerful Revelation II piece recognition board
The Tasc units will remain above the surface a bit longer to have a go at each other

For these R40 vs. R30 Games i will use these setting for all games:

Style-Active
Strength-Expert
Hash-On
Easy-Off
Book R40- Aegon-Random(Not Tournament)
Book R30-Random(Not Tournament)
Time Control-1 Min.Avg

i will vary the search settings for each game..

http://www.flickr.com/photos/10261668@N ... 0922173034

Between the faster clock speed and stronger program ...
R40 is a good 100+ elo Stronger then the R30
lets see if this holds true when the Search Method is varied..

In Game One ...
Both Computers were set to SELECTIVE SEARCH
Both Computers are out of book on move 7
R 30 wastes several Tempi in castling by hand
feeling a false sense of security at having managed to 0-0 .. it blunders at move 36 allowing the R40 to rip open the exposed position of White's K
heavy material loss soon follows and the R30 is brought to its knees

Hi Steve,

On schachcomputer active list R30 (V2.2) has an elo of 2377 and R40(V2.5) 2404 so they are quite close but probably on 1 min level it is another story. Lets see the match if that 100+ comes up.

waiting for the second game regards

Hi Ricardo
this match is not exactly a normal match
i am changing the search methods with each game just for curiosity
the first game was ..Sel Vs Sel
the second game will be Brute Vs Brute
in the Third and final game...R40 will have Brute and the R30 Selective

Game Two
Both computers were set to BRUTE FORCE SEARCH
R30 is Out Of Book at move 4
R40 is out at move 8

R30 plays aggressively sacking a P early on
wild tactical complications arise with the R40 ending up ahead with the material advantage of N+B+5P's vs.R+4P's..
to make matters worse..one of the P's is an advanced P at D6
R40 handles the material advantage so expertly that even the Super GM's playing at the London Classic were forced to stand up and take Notice

Stunning. Steve, in the photo of these two combatants, which is which? And regarding the board on the right, what is the function of the loose cord?

R40 is on the left..R30 on the Right
just like the title of the photo reads

the loose cord in the middle of the desk is the power adaptor for my laptop/notebook computer
my laptop sits in the middle of the desk but i removed it for the photo

Glad you enjoy the photos and thread
We are both in the same league my friend
the Dedicated Chess Computer League
the Premiere Computer Chess league in the world today
:P
the fact that i might have some rare computer's in my collection is not something i consider an accomplishment or achievement to be proud of
it took no special talent or skill
it only involves the fact that i am old enough to have acquired these things from the beginning when they were first offered for sale..and the burning desire to pay for it even if it meant going without food or medical supplies

if i added up the cost of my collection ..my avg. price per unit would be far greater then most other collectors because these things sold for much higher when new then can be bought for today on Ebay
hardly something to be proud of

Hohmm,

There are quite a few out there who are giving at least the price it went for when new and then some... I'm thinking about Bavaria, R30's, the wooden Fidelity's recently.

Come to think of it, I never saw an R40 on ebay; Now THAT might turn out to be a shooting tent. And I'm not talking about a whole lot of people sprewing bullets, but a few shooting bazooka's...

Should 've bought an R40 when new, instead of depriving myself regards

Xavier
