Collector's Corner..On Collecting Dedicated Chess Computers

Post by Steve B »

neither the box nor the pieces are from any Boris chess computer i know of

probably the original owner of a Walnut Boris replaced the original pieces with this piece set and box and played on a normal sized board rather then use the small fold-up board and small pieces included with the computer..so now we have this

0-2 Regards
Steve

PS.Speaking of the Walnut Boris..the Walnut Boris Master:
http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-BORIS-ELECT ... 56QQihZ005

I had the same reaction when I saw the auctions yesterday... the Boris Master have been enlisted first and therefore appears AFTER the board when you sort by "Newly listed".

The Master is quite rare compared to the simple Boris...

hi William

nice to see you again and welcome to the future of all things computer chess

the only difference is that the WBM can save the position and game setting's in memory when turned off
the top switch is a MEMORY switch while in the normal WB the top switch is a RESET switch

Still the WBM is somewhat rare and considered a nice collectors item

Walnut Boris Grandmaster(built but never released for sale)Regards

Thanks - plus a book deal

Post by Bill Kerr »

Thanks Steve.

I was hoping it had an very early version of the Intel Core 2 Quad. Oh well.

Have you ever thought about putting all your standalone chess computer knowledge (plus pictures) into a book to be published for the public. It may take you a few years to craft it into a book, but would make a good read for us standalone computer folks.

Hold out for movie royalties

IT had occurred to me once to do something like that Will
..i even went so far as to get an estimate of the costs involved to publish such a book and then i held focus group's across the US to try to get an idea of the target audience and how many books i could reasonably expect to sell

after encountering total lack of interest (from even my own mother no less) i ditched the whole plan

Couldn't even give it away for free regards
