Perhaps Bryan Whitby can track Mark Taylor down?
hes usually good at tracking these guys down for an interview
here is a post of his from the CCC 20 years ago... http://www.stmintz.com/ccc/index.php?id=11870
should be enough to test the sleuthing powers of Whitby
The Chase Is Afoot Regards

Well Steve
Unfortunately this time I just can't track himdown.
I did managed to track down the Mark Taylor who you thought might have been him playing online but it wasn't him.
After his time with Intelligent Software, Mark appears to have been employed as a general PC games programmer and adviser but after that nothing.
Maybe he died?
One thing I did uncover was a guy on Linkedin named Hal Bogner. This is what he wrote that might be of interest to some of us here.
Chess advisor to David Kittinger, Novag Chess Computers, 1980-82
- wrote opening libraries for Novag Savant and Novag Constellation chess computers
- developed new approach to seeking open positions, leading to the first 2000+ rated chess computer, the Novag Super Constellation.

Thanks for trying Bryan
all was not in vain it seems as we now have a new name to debate and argue over
I doubt mark taylor died. I saw him posting in the internet about chess programming in 2016. it was without any doubt mark taylor. He talked about an anecdote with levy and intelligent chess. This identifies his common name up to 100% for sure.
Also he was a member in the ccc talkchess forum. But that’s long time ago.
But you find reference in old archives. I would also like to talk with him.
Let’s try to contact him.
What seems like a fairy tale today may be reality tomorrow.
Here we have a fairy tale of the day after tomorrow....
I asked Chris Bray about the programmer of Triomphe, Yeno 301XL because I found :
"...He has been playing backgammon for forty years after moving to the game from chess and bridge in the late 1970s."
His answer :
>> Sorry, my area of expertise is backgammon not chess.
>> Kind Regards
>> Chris
