The trusty ol 68030 modules win the third game and take the mini-match with a score of 2.5-.5

The Emulated London resigns in this position:

Oh Well.. Was Just A Thought.... Rev-Shredder 12 Anyone? Regards

End of last year I finished a tournament 30sec per move where the Revelation London participated (amongst other engines).
Games and results can be found here:

http://www.schach-computer.info/Partien ... lde_13.htm

Only the strongest dedicated chess computer could leave the Lang Steroid Group behind.

Well as we both know, if I´d play the same tournament again with the same machines the result would be totally different.
I am getting weaker every day.

Statistics regards

Heres a cute trick

load up Rev-Polgar
play a couple of moves
then "SEL" engine to MMV
this will load the HG550 book into the MMV and you will have the MMV emulation with the HG550 book module ..otherwise the MMV will only have the normal book

the normal start up screen display for the MMV module with HG550 book module locked and loaded is "HG55"
the Rev-MMV startup screen should now show the same screen(instead of "PLAY")

Is this a bug or a feature? I mean, this way one can play the MMV both with or without the opening book.
Was this implemented deliberately this way?

Bewildered regards,

the MMV will play with its own normal opening book but it will also use the HG550 book ..
the HG550 book is normally in the Polgar modules
so when you load up the Polgar and then the MMV the book remains in the Rev's memory i guess
i guess its a bug but i prefer to think of it as a great "Feature"

And So we begin comparing the emulation speeds in the Rev as compared to the actual modules
the speedup is dependent on the use of hash tables ,and the actual number of possible moves..so speedups will vary depending on the phase of the game(Opening, middle and endgame)
i tried a simple test in the opening phase..
for the 9 68000 processor Emulations(Glasgow to London)only the 68000 modules were tested and not the 020 or 030 modules

Test Methodology:
time it takes to complete a full x ply search after white plays 1.Nh3(or 1.Na3 depending on which move is not in the engines book)
there are 20 possible black replies
For Glasgow to Roma i used a full 5 Ply Search
For Almeria to London i used a full 6 Ply Search
For the Schroeder Emulations a full 8 ply Search
when switching between programs in the Rev ..Ram seems to be effected(see my post above about the HG550 book module)
as a result .. each test was performed by completely closing down the Rev after each test and loading a new program rather then just switching programs
each test result shown was performed twice for both the module and the emulation as a double check

of course a more accurate test would be all phases of the game for each module ..but as i work for a living this will have to do for now...when i am retired and living on a dessert island i will perform a more complete and accurate test

Rev-Glasgow.....595 Sec.
Glasgow Module.....3330 Sec.
speedup achieved...5.6x

Rev-Amsterdam.......470 Sec.
Amsterdam Module......1695 Sec.
speedup achieved...3.61x

Rev-Dallas.....575 Sec.
Dallas Module.....2040 Sec.
speedup achieved...3.55x

Rev-Roma......595 Sec.
Roma Module.......2075 Sec.
speedup achieved...3.49x

Rev-Almeria.....194 Sec.
Almeria Module.......597 Sec.
speedup achieved...3.1x

Rev-Portorose.....180 Sec.
Portorose Module.......538 Sec.
speedup achieved...3.0x

Rev-Lyon.....172 Sec.
Lyon Module.....510 Sec.
speedup achieved...2.97x

both 1.Nh3 and 1.Na3 are in the Vancouver and London's book so here the move sequence tested was 1.Na3 e5 2.Nb1
there are 30 possible black replies

Rev-Vancouver.....352 Sec.
Vancouver Module.....1395 Sec.
speedup achieved...3.96x

in preparation to test the London modules i was reminded of the fact that i do not own the London 68000 modules while i do own the 020 and 030 London modules
i therefore tested the speedup achieved against the London 68020 modules

Rev-London 68000.....264 Sec.
London 68020 Module.....451 Sec
speedup achieved...1.71x

For the Schroeder Emulations i tested the speedup's Achieved using a full 8 ply search
we are back to either 1.Na3 or 1.Nh3

Rev-Rebel 3.0......154 Sec.
Rebel 3.0 module......696 Sec.
speedup achieved....4.5x

Rev-MMIV......130 Sec.
MMIV module.....600 Sec.
speedup achieved...4.6x

Rev- MMV......154 Sec.
MMV module.....696 Sec.
speedup achieved...4.5x

Rev-Polgar.....145 Sec.
Polgar module.....615 Sec.
speedup achieved....4.25x

And Finally....a test of the Sisters Polgar after the move Sequence
1.Na3 e5 2.Nb1

Rev-Polgar.....330 Sec.
Polgar module.....1430 Sec.
speedup achieved....4.33x

Emulsifed Regards

To Complete the Polgar comparison...

For 1.Na3....
Rev-Polgar.....145 Sec.
Polgar 10 module .....307 Sec.
Speedup Achieved...2.12x

For 1.Na3 e5 2.Nb1
Rev-Polgar.....330 Sec.
Polgar 10 module .....715 Sec.
Speedup Achieved...2.17x

Nice to see these consistent results

there are no changes to the original programs. Opening books, RAM, functions: All is 100% original!
Hi Sascha
one small difference i notice relates to the Polgar emulation
in the Polgar module..in order to save a game and continue play at a later time the user must press MEM and then power down the computer
when the computer is powered back up the position is retained in memory
for the emulation this does not seem to work
there appears to be no way to save the current game in the Rev-Polgars memory and return to it later
that is..pressing Mem and then OFF does not save the game
the later Lang programs seem to be OK with saving the current game

Best Regards

Hi,
that is correct. You can only save the state and the game at the following Engines: Almeria, Portorose, Lyon, Vancouver & London.

There is no way to save the game like you can with the Polgar. But this is "only" a function ....

The program itself is 100% the same!

Best Regards,
Sascha
