Difference between Mephisto Modular and ModularII ?
Hello all,
I've got both the Modular and the ModularII, the ModularII is broken
down. I can't figure out why, tried swapping bits around, the problem
seems to be under the playing surface. I'll keep trying.
Basically I'm wondering what the difference is between the two anyway.
They look the same. Do they run on different adaptors, and take a
different voltage, perhaps? I can't seem to find any info on them, particularly
the ModularII.
Anyone help me out here, with personal knowledge, or perhaps some
relevant links?
thanks in advance
Larry

Re: Difference between Mephisto Modular and ModularII ?
Hi Larry,
the other Modulars have their LEDs covered under the sensor foil (which is transparent there), making a flat surface like the Berlin, Atlanta, Milano pro and so on
I don't know of other differences (which does not have to mean, that there are none! )
best regards,
Robert
The only differences in Modulars that i have seen, were in the field LED's: some Modulars have wholes in the fields, where the LEDs were looking through (like in a wooden board)Larry wrote:Hello all,

That is possible. He will tell us for sure.Steve B wrote:Jose wrote:Perhaps now i will learn again - but i do not know a Modular II. I only know about ONE version? Why do you think it is called Modular II?
Modular is only the board....

i think Larry means he has the MMI and MMII modules
there is only one Modular board

Look the holes like good, clean german work? or is it perhaps a selfmade Modular?Robert Weck wrote:The only differences in Modulars that i have seen, were in the field LED's: some Modulars have wholes in the fields, where the LEDs were looking through (like in a wooden board)

there are 2 versions of modular boards. the older one with plastic surface and PRINTED board and very tiny pieces. these pieces fit into the empty-module that was in each modular.
these boards had holes for the LEDs and the printed board would go away if you scratch with the piece (e.g. when doing a blitz game) over the printing.
the pieces were so tiny in relation to the magnet that often the pawns glued together... not very good for blitz games.
the later modulars had a board not printed but like the press-sensor machines fit in a whole on the surface. there you have no holes, there you can scratch with the pieces without destroying the printing.
and the pieces were better and bigger. as a negative side effect the pieces do not fit anymore into the empty-modules that came with the modulars.
as far as i remember the power unit in those modulars was also little more state of the art. with the older modulars it could happen that it gets TOO hot and damages the plastic above the power unit at the right side.

It was not my Modular; Rainer Migas had it once in Kaufbeuren IIRC, so i cannot tell for sure...Jose wrote: Look the holes like good, clean german work? or is it perhaps a selfmade Modular?

But why should somebody drill holes in a Modular board?
Robert
i think Larry means he has the MMI and MMII modules

Hi guys, and thanks for the replies. This is the "ModularII". The picture is
not too clear, but you see the "II" after the word "Modular". On my other
modular the "II" is not there. Otherwise the two machines look identical.
My modules are the Polgar and the MMII. The MMII does'nt work.
My guess is the modules are interchangeable between the two.
I sometimes wish the chess comp manufacturers kept an ongoing
record of the exact models, versions, dates, programs, etc etc to be
released later into the public domain.
