I noticed that Ted Summers had posted this in another place a few days ago:

Quote:
I left my Quad on overnight playing Chess on Playchess. It likes to do that from time to time, so I figured why not since it's the Memorial Weekend over here. Why not let the computer have a little fun? When I woke up this morning around 6:30AM and went to my desk and found my computer playing none other than that old champ from the past ..., MChess Pro version 8. For those who don't remember that version was released around 1998-1999 by Marty Hirsch. It was being operated by a gentleman named Andreas Wutzke who was in the Playchess engine room playing in Centaur mode so he could relay the moves using some custom setting he developed.

Yesterday I got a version of The Baron from Richard Pijl and today the same Mchess was playing on Playchess:

its a sad thing we "lost" Marty Hirsch. I miss him and his program.

I guess it will be back in 2010, so the fans of this program will be happy as they will be able to buy a new version able to use the current hardware etc... Very Happy

I am currently working on Shredder 12 commercial book and do not have time to follow the match. How did it go the first one and what is the current score?

Some more info on Marty:

I met him and his wife in the San Francisco bay area as I invited him to join the celebration of my birthday, so we had some time to talk while we were eating the dinner together.

The 1st game was won by the Baron. The game is at the start of this thread. I will paste the current game here later. Mchess is playing a recent version of The Baron given to me by Richard.

It must have been interesting to meet Marty. Stefan told me he was hoping to release S12 in July is this still the target? I look forward to it.

Yes, he is really a clever and nice guy. We discussed a lot on chess and computer chess and we exchanged some ideas. He believes he has new ideas which, according to him, are not so easy to make, but knowing him as I do it simply means it will take some time to put them in an algorithm. It does not seem he want to make a new version losing to other chess engines, so it should be intersting...

Stefan is a heavy worker, so he can make miracles from cutting time to release something, but I do not think he can make it before the end of July. This is just my opinion. My plan is to be ready to release my book at the middle of July. i want to make a much better book than previous ones for all customers; those who use the program to play it or against other chess engines... so I am working hard on it.

Nice to hear from you Sandro and good luck with your upcoming opening book release Very Happy

Hi Wael,

I hope everything is going well.

Thanks.

I take the opportunity to say hell to all the chess friends.

Ciao
