list of our chess computers , let's share it

Post by TurboKing »

Hello
Dear members
I have a *very very* small collection compared to Steve's or Spacious Mind's but I felt like to share my tiny list of computers , so please don't laugh at it .
This is the list of my computers from the oldest to the newest bought machine:
1) Saitek Turbo King
This was my very first chess computer , got it in 1990 . It is a very good machine , it has a lot of useful features and a strong program at that time (1990) , it still enjoy playing with it.

2) Novag Super Forte C
this one I got it second hand in the early 90's

3) Radioshack RS 2250xl
this is a really nice machine because of its autotracking screen and also lots of nice features , it was an ebay purchase

4) Mephisto Master Chess
it has a poor screen but it has very sensitive cases (best among all of my machines) so that a very small pressure is enough to register a move

5) Saitek RISC 2500 with 2 Mb
this is my favourite machine because of its features: and esp it shows the name of openings :D and it has a very strong elo.

6) Master Chess Diamond , Mephisto Europa A and Manhattan
I bought all of these together on ebay for a few euros , very good bargain because of the suitcase of Europa and the adapter .
The chess diamond doesn't have its chessmen and there is no way to make it work as I have no adapter for it.

7) Novag Diamond 2
got it second hand

8 ) Novag Star Diamond , Novag Obsidian and Novag Turquoise
I have just bought these three this august from Novag offices in Hong-Kong , they are refurbished but still in very good condition.

I forgot the Tiger chess Marathon and the '3 in 1' Saitek chess travel computer but these are rather junk because of their strength and poor features.

Your turn

Collection

Post by ruffsteve »

Hi Everyone!

What a great idea.....

My first machine alas was consigned to the bin long before my interest came about, it was the Hanimex Computachess 2.

The collection as it stands at the moment is:-
1. Kasparov Turbo King, sensory programmed by Julio Kaplan (I agree with you a great machine which was purchased 1989 for £139.99, a lot of pocket money then!)
2. Kasparov Bravo, peg sensory program cloned from the GK2000, Franz Morsch I think.
3. Excalibur Grandmaster, cheap and cheerful with a nice size auto-sensory board.
4. Excalibur LCD Express, approx 1600elo?
5. Mephisto Europa
6. Mephisto Berlin 68000, nice machine and a 'buy it now' bargain from e-bay for £50!
7. Mephisto Exclusive MMVI, another Morsch program, same as the GK2100 i think, lovely board and program to play against.
8. Novag Constellation Expert, my pride and joy and in mint condition.
9. Fidelity Chess Challenger 7, no collection is complete without. With box and original packaging.
10. Acetronic Graduate, interesting early peg machine with keyboard entry and LCD display.
11. Fidelity Excellence (would sell if I could win an auction on a Par Exellence!).
12. Excalibur Sabre IV, quite weak and a pressie from the wife.
13. Palm Zire with Hiarcs 9.6, Naum and OpenChess

......................I think thats it...................

As the collection expands hopefully I'll take some photos and add a link.

Cheers Steve

hi Steve

welcome to the future of all things..

i love wooden(holz) chess computers also and your Novag Conny Expert is a real gem

normally i would be a bit shocked at this entry in a list of dedicated units:

13. Palm Zire with Hiarcs 9.6, Naum and OpenChess

but seeing how it is locked and loaded with Hiarcs...
well... who am i to argue?

:P Regards
Steve

Hi Silvian
Welcome to the Computer Chess Scene
even having one chess computer can show a smart informed decision
and the Milano by Ed Schröder is a classic computer indeed!

Well Done Regards

Hi, and thanks for starting an interesting thread. Here's my collection listed
in order of manufacturers. A lot don't require any notes, but some do.

Mephisto:
Berlin London Pro. I was lucky to get hold of this one. A very well made
and powerful machine. The strongest pressure sensory in the world, as far
as I know. Complete and mint.
Modena
Mondial II

Fidelity:
Elegance. Bought this one new in 1984. It broke down soon after the
warranty expired, I got it going just last year. Beautiful machine, complete
and mint.
Par Excellence. Not many of these come onto the market, I got it on ebay
last year.
Excellence. Plenty of these around, because, new, they cost little more
than half the cost of the later Par Excellence.
Excel Display
Mach3 Designer
Mach3 Excel
Excel 68000
Travel Master. Complete, mint, and working fine. Not many around,
because of a design fault. They nearly all broke down shortly after
purchase. If you've got a working one, leave it in it's open position.
'9' level version A
'9' level version B. I list both because they have a distinctly different
program in them.
'10' level. In it's carry case. If you like winning, this is the computer
for you.
'8' level. Second biggest production run in chess comp history, and
the first dedicated chess comp I laid eyes on.
'7' level. Biggest production run by far, ~600,000 units sold.
'6' level. This one has a display but *no* lights. Tough luck if you don't
know chess notation.
Classic.
Gambit.
CSC handheld
Silver Bullet.

Novag.

Constellation Expert. I bought this used, when it was one year old.
A trusted friend, never misses a beat.
Super Constellation. Bought it a year ago. I bought one new back in
the heyday of dedicated's, and had to sell it the following year to get
cash for the next machine. Definitely a classic machine! Nicknamed the
"Blitz Monster" for it's fast tactical play.
Constellation
Constellation 3.6
Emerald Classic Plus.
Diamond 2.
Obsidian
Sapphire 2
Ruby
Super Forte 'B'
Super Forte 'C', with printer

Milton Bradley

MB's original Phantom. Excellent working condition, but sadly it is
missing it's original box. Otherwise complete.

SciSys

Turbostar 432. I bought this out of curiosity, because it was ScySys
answer to the SuperConnie, and supposedly some 50 rating points higher.
But weaker on Blitz time control. It has the KSO module.

If anyone would like to see a picture of one or more of my machines,
just ask.

all the best
Larry

I am not a collector, so i have no collector list
I only like playing with chess computers and some of my computers often change - only a few will stay constant, like a CC1, Hanimex HCG 1900, CC Sensory Champion upgraded SU9, Courier V, Stratos, Par Excellence, CC9, Simultano, GK2100 or at last a Scisys Sensor Chess (black version).

No Collector Regards José
