Hi,
Good luck to Harvey :) This will be the first WCCC in years that I miss totally :( but I am being dragged kicking and screaming to the airport to fly to the Maldives on the 28th for a couple of week on www.meeru.com in a JWV ... Luckily there is a board there :)

Flying out tomorrow. I hope to broadcast all Hiarcs games on Playchess. At the moment there are some internet problems at the venue so am not sure what is going to happen. Even using remote machines could be an issue. I will try to at least post pgns here and let you all know what is going on.

Arrivals Day:

Arrived at Beijing airport on time. I had arranged to meet Hans Van der Zijden so we could share a Taxi but this plan did not work he phoned me to say his plane had landed at a different terminal so we took separate Taxis. He had flown over with Johan de Koning.

I arrived at the Hotel about 10 minutes after them due to my taxi running out of Petrol, luckily outside a Gas Station!

The Hotel is brand new and our rooms are about 400 metres from reception. The porter who helped with the bags could not find the rooms we had to help him :)

We, Johan Hans and I, then headed to this strange building labelled Pub and had a warm beer :( We then headed to the main part of the Hotel and had a slightly cooler beer. Well Johan and I did Hans does not drink. After that we had dinner in the Restaurant and finally a cold beer. Hans was trying to order sparkling mineral water but despite trying to mime gas/bubbles apart from getting an amused audience he only got still water. As we were finishing eating some others were arriving but we decided to call it a night before round 1 in the morning.

Very little english is spoken here.

The only other major event was that Johan's luggage was lost so at the moment he has no clean clothes or laptop and will be smelling nice in a day or 2!

That's all for now more after the 1st games tomorrow.
