knps comparison MAC <-> PC

Post by HFaber »

Under Shredder 9 classic and SigmaChess 6.1.5 lite on Mac, Hiarcs 11.2 MP
calculates about 361knps after setting up a new game and playing 1.a3, then
letting Hiarcs calculate. This is on Intel iMac 2.16 GHz.
I find this knps disappointing. On my Dell CoreDuo
Laptop 2.0 GHz, Hiarcs 11.2 MP calculates reasonable 550knps under
Shredder classic GUI (same setup). This is about 50% more/faster than on
the iMac. Am I missing something?

For two cores, 361 knps is two low. I get already 510 knps on my PowerPC 2.5 Ghz using two cores.
One thing in the Shredder GUI, be sure two uncheck "Engine with low priority" in Preferences -> Engine Options, and make sure two restart the GUI, because that particular setting only takes effect after restarting the GUI.

PS: As comparision, in the Sigma Chess GUI I get 534 knps fo two cores, which is why I prefer this GUI over the Shredder Java GUI. :roll:

Yes, that's too low. Hiarcs on my MacBook Pro (2.4 GHz) with SigmaChess calculates with about 610 knps.

Hi,
so I finally tested it out.
When I only let Hiarcs 11.2 MP run under Shredder, I see about 530-540knps.
Hiarcs 11.2 SP reaches about 300-310knps.
So my mistake was to underestimate the resource grabbing by the other programs. :wink:
