Mephisto Genius 68030 module set...
http://www.ebay.de/itm/250899835478?ssP ... 1423.l2649
I wanted them, but not that badly.
1700 Euro... about $2350 in my money.
While some dedicateds seem to be coming down in price, others
are going in the other direction.

Woof..not even the London update either
now that is a very high price
was it just for the modules or was the exclusive board shown in the photos included?
even still ..Jose's site shows this to be the second highest price ever for Genius modules.. with most selling for around 1000 Euros

Modules only... probably what helped the price. Most have already gotSteve B wrote:

a board and don't want to be forced to pay for another one, and then
shipping on top of that, especially if they are bidding from some
distance away. The seller got lucky with a few bidders that were sick
of waiting, and bid knowingly over the going price. I did that with the
Montreux. It all averages out when we consider the bargains we got.

Yep modules only, I can confirm because I was in contact with the seller.
Pffff, what a hell of an auction.
I was part of the "crazy four" that bid up to the end but resigned at around 1600EUR as I considered the price was really not justified any more.
Even if I am a bit disappointed I think:
- this is really the price of the same modules with some good Munchen board usually
- this is almost the price of Rev-I modules
- this money will be probably better invested into a Rev-II

Well i have to agree here Fabricefdimeglio wrote: I was part of the "crazy four" that bid up to the end but resigned at around 1600EUR as I considered the price was really not justified any more.
1700 is just a very high price
i paid 1800 for the Fidelity V5 and from a collecting standpoint the two computers are not even close in terms of rarity
the V5 is extremely rare and the Genius modules are really not rare at all..many collectors have these modules (and also the London upgrade)
i dont think i got the V5 for a low price either..just about right
very few chess computers sell for more today then they did when first released
it seems the Genius modules buck this trend as generally they sell for the same price as when released($1000 per set)
perhaps this auction was an Anomaly due to the last minute

Private, from a retired gentleman I met on this forum who was passing on his treasures to the next generation. These are the long-sought-after jewels of my humble collection. (For stats, $2000 for the Genius, $700 for the Berlin Pro, no original packaging. The Berlin was missing its adapter, but my boss has two drawers full of thirty years of collected wall warts. It turns out the 600mA adapter for a Belldon KVM works great! The Berlin even seems to run a little cooler with it.)
