Does this mean we'll see a new version out soon? Along with HCE 2.0?

A good tournament result and it would seem to me a good time to make a commercial release of the tournament engine with perhaps a dangling of the carrot bonus of a subsequent update if the tournament engine is not exactly as Mark would wish it to be. Time is marching on and it is already five years since the release of HIARCS 14. Being a UK entry, Mark could of course implement a one off renaming of the tournament winning engine to BREXIT 2017.

Incidentally, was it a 64 bit engine that participated?

Congratulations on the win! It will be great to see when this version of Hiarcs is released. It was good to note Komodo's games and select a good opening against it, and carry home the win.

A few people have asked me about Komodo's entry, and this single game loss. We never intended to enter Komodo in this manner in this tournament. Hans approached us via email about entering Komodo. I assumed we could not since we could not afford to attend with any Komodo Team members. We never arranged a machine, or an opening book. But somehow due to miscommunication it looks like Komodo participated anyway.

I want to make it clear that me, Larry and Erdo did not select the opening book. We did not supply a machine. Or even a recent version of Komodo. When we enter things we try to always use the best machine, book and Komodo version we have. But that did not happen here. Komodo ran on a 4 core machine here. We generally use at least a 24 core machine. I did not even know we were playing until the whole thing was over. So consider this a bit of a handicap match for Komodo. Of course, Hiarcs could have gained a lot of elo recently, which would be great. And anything can happen in a short tournament. It is what makes them exciting!

We look forward to competing again soon. And nice work by Mark and Harvey!

Looking Forward To Seeing Hiarcs 15 and the new engine used.

Post by pdvossen »

Looking forward to seeing the new engine being finished and utilized in a new Hiarcs 15. Hiarcs has the best and most simple interface to use. I have Computer Assistant 17, Chess King 2017 Platinum, Komodo 10 and others, but Hiarcs is the easiest to organize games and install engines in its interface. Look forward to an update and new engine.

I hope for great success in the near future Mark and company.

Patrick

PS. I do like Chess King for simply training but only Houdini can be used. Simple and nice, but not near the options Hiarcs gives me.
