Computer chess book explaination

Post by Dbartol1 »

Hi,
Could someone explain this or point me in the right direction. What do the columns mean in the computer chess books ... such as n, N, cap, etc.

Thanks

In what's called English descriptive notation, 'n' means black knight,
'N' means white knight, 'Cap' I assume means capture. It's actually
quite intuitive once you get the idea.
Just remember, lower case for black and upper case for white.

That's not what I mean. When using an open book with a chess engine the book will show several moves that look similar to this:

"d4. N=7236, succ =53%, cap =+.23 +/- total = 10,342, Elo = 2850, year = 2016"

I'm looking for explanations for all of that.

Ok, I did half expect a reply like this. I dropped the post quickly as I
was going to bed last night.
I don't follow this stuff myself, I was never that into it. There's got
to be someone here that can help.

Usually todays opening books are computer generated from hundreds of thousands of GM level games.

cap is computers evaluation of the position.

N is most likely how often that move was played.
