"No matter how hard I try, even though I'm wayyyy up in material, I just can't seem to find a way to checkmate her. Wait a minute....."

"Oh, who cares. I'm just looking forward to some of that delicious frozen chicken with that golden gravy of cream, chicken broth, and seasonings."

Judging by the position of the off board black pieces, I would suggest that in fact the lady is white and winning! The man is considering ramming that chicken pie into her face before she can deliver checkmate.

she thinks: so glad that Daddy keeps his mind active and shows no signs of dementia

he thinks: she'll never win while my king is hidden in the chicken pie

Yes! This ad is just fascinating to analyze.

He has his hand on the white pawn, which leads me to believe that he is playing white. The way he is gripping the pawn does not appear to indicate that he just "took" the pawn as a won piece. Therefore, his evil wife (or daughter, or escort) is hiding her red queen. Perhaps in the pie itself as alynch4047 hypothesizes.

However, the setup of the board does lend itself to the woman playing white. In that case, the gentleman (let's call him Colonel Mustard) has covertly concealed the red queen (perhaps up his mustard shirt sleeve). To what purpose has he done this? He is far down in material. It appears that he wants to eat the chicken. Why not do the honorable thing and just resign?

But - the greatest question of all - how did they get the square frozen chicken meal to conform to that round bowl?

So many unanswered questions...
