A new Robot?

Post by dedicate computers »

A new robot built? Maybe for the price can only be useful when Steve, isn't it?

i am seeing that you need a Smart phone to make the board work
automatically disqualifies it as a dedicated chess computer

Next Idea Regards

This is an amazing project by the young Indian lads and I wish them all the very best for the future and really hope that their dream becomes a reality.
I have followed it from it's conception and have advised them of certain things in the past.

The only thing that worries me is warranty and repair which up to now, I can't get a concrete answer from them. Communication about software bugs has been good but warranty issues have not.

Hi Bryan,

warranty could be an issue, sure - especially for the first devices (as I ordered... 8) ). But as I would like to look behind the curtain, I will play an "active role" in that case. It's an experiment, also for me, but I like the project idea and I want to support them...

I know three other guys who ordered already and together with you we are at least five in that community! :D Give it a try...

Expecting all the best regards,
Michael

Hi Michael

Just received this from Alessandro
.....................................................

Hey Bryan,

I would like to tell you that we have worked on Square Off for over 3 years and use very high quality parts. We expect the failure rate to be minimum.

However in the unfortunate event of irregular functioning of the board, we will first offer you e-Support and work with you to solve the problem, however if there is any problem which cannot be resolved, we will replace the part/entire board (as applicable) free of charge.

The unit will be covered under 1 year's warranty (*shipping to be paid by user)

Let me know if I can help you with any more queries.

Regards,
...........................................................

Michael, a while ago I bought a cheap Pavilion Talking Chess Computer for my grandson. I thought it would speak after every move to help him understand chess but unfortunately it didn't. I stored it away for a while in my loft until the other day I found a spare Teensy 2 USB Development Board in one of my desk draws and decided that the Pavilion needed updating so I did the following to it!!!

1. OPEN IT UP

Image

2. RIP IT'S GUTS OUT

Image

3. SOLDER JUMPER WIRES TO THE BOARDS CONNECTIONS

Image

4. PROGRAM THE TEENSY WITH MATT SHANNON'S SISH CHESS CODE AND CONNECT THE JUMPERS

Image

5. BIT OF A MESS BUT WHO WILL EVER SEE IT!

Image

6. THE FINISHED CONVERSION CONNECTED TO 'CHESS FOR ANDROID' RUNNING KOMODO!

Image

Took about an hour to make and I will now have to wait until my grandson reaches grandmaster strength to play it

Regards

Hi Bryan,

nice idea, your "Talking Teensy Sish Chess", you used the board switch matrix - a candidate for Kickstarter?? 8)

The warranty terms seem to be acceptable - at least for tinkerer... :P

We meet on Square Off's App regards, Michael

By the way: The app is already working - I tried it out this morning with a chess friend. You can already play via app to app.

Thanks.

Ahh - that explains it - Android only as is Beta. I guess Apple doesn't allow beta versions on the app store. Looks like us IOS owners will have to wait longer...

I ordered this morning, and their project has now met the goal it seems... roll on April!

According to Alessandro the iOS app will come in April next year. There are still functions missing within the Android app...

Windows Mobile ? You are probably the only one left.
But if they have a documented API, I might do an update to CEBoard :-)
