I use HCE for Mac daily for several hours doing opening analysis/study, and I am thoroughly satisfied. I find it very clean and space efficient. The only gripe I have that I do not have easy access to all the standard annotation symbols, I looked through the manual and have learned the several hotkeys, but some of the symbols still elude me:

• ↑ – Initiative
• ↑↑ – Development, Also written ↻.
• ⇄ – Counterplay
• ∇ – Countering

A minor note, when evaluating a novelty HCE places the evaluation before the novelty (N) notation.

For example:

12.Bg4=N instead of 12.Bg4N=, which in my experience is the standard use.

Lastly, I find Chess Position Trainer (http://www.chesspositiontrainer.com/) very useful, and would love to have a similar option for Mac. If HIARCS were to develop a similar product I would absolutely buy it.

Food for thought, I hope.
