CEGT 40/20 update (August 05th 2007)

Post by Werner »

Hi all :D ,

Our newest rating list and games for download are now online. All links at the end of the posting as usual.

40/20
New engines in our list are Fruit 05/11/03 and Bright 0.2a from Allard Siemelink. We have updated results mainly from Hiarcs 11.2 MP and Naum 2.2 MP.

Fruit 05/11/03
Fabiens last beta has a rating of 2829 elos after 358 games. This is very close to the Lacrosse setting of Fruit 2.3.

Bright 0.2a
This engine we got direct from the author. 2693 elos after 197 games is a very good result!

Hiarcs 11.2 2CPU
The update of Hiarcs has had a promising start rating after 190 games. I even remember a posting in our forum with +120 elos after 80 games. But now with 620 games the rating drops down and we can see no more improvement over Hiarcs 11.1.

Naum 2.2 x64 2CPU
Naum 2.2 could hold its good start rating. The improvement over version 2.1 are solid 46 points.

40/120
For this list we have played nearly 11500 games. The new engines from last week doing very well.
Naum 2.2 x64 2CPU is 72 points in front of the previous version with 2922 elos (+-33). Hiarcs 11.2 MP is now 27 points in front of Hiarcs 11. We did not test version 11.1. Fruit 2.3 agg could hold its rating with more than 50 elos compared to version Fruit 2.2.

A big thanks to all testers as usual.

Hi Werner, Harvey and all :) ,

thanks for the report. Although I am usually very shy :) I will add a few comments and notes that might interest some people. Caution, long post!

The CEGT 40/120 rating list (adapted to AMD 64x2 4200+) is running for a bit more than 14 months now. Nonetheless we collected already more than 11500 games (and 1000 games and more for many engines so far) using a lot of hardware day and night, what is necessary because such a game lasts averagely around six hours on one machine. With dropping prices we have just added three quads, but will use them to run two matches with dual core engines simultaneously running in two different GUI´s, until we will add 4CPU engines maybe by the beginning of next year.

All more than 200 matches with 50 games each can be replayed in the Replay Zone involving currently four Hiarcs versions tested:

CEGT 40/120 is done very systematically. Each engine version has to play against all others with the same amount of 50 games, excluding auto play matches (versions of one engine against other versions of the same engine or similar like Fruit/Toga). Engines we are considering as illegal clones (Strelka) are excluded. I just added a collection of miniatures (see posting in the CEGT Forum where you can find daily updated result reports for CEGT tournament time control matches and active chess with interim ELO calculations, what is especially interesting when new engine versions are out).

May well be you will detect there also some of the daring Hiarcs sacrifices.

Results from finished matches you find in the results overview:

Of ocurse you will find also complete downloads either with annotated games or stripped from all comments, a rating progression showing frequently the statical noise in the beginning after adding more games and Michael just added an update for the rating comparison between CEGT 40/120 and CEGT 40/20 which are adapted to each other:

The third 50 games match for the currently included Hiarcs 11.2 2CPU will be finished tonight and I will report here tomorrow, giving also comparison to the previously tested version in the respective match and interim results from new started matches. Maybe pointing out some games in typical Hiarcs style if I find the time to check a lot of games, what I regularly do.

Best Wishes
