the Cosmos came out in 1998 and was a little stronger then the TC 2100
SS rates it at 2017 and the TC2100 is 1993
the TC 2100 came out in 1994 and is the travel version of the President
the hardware i believe is the same and of course both programs are by Morsch
i recall reading at the time that the Cosmos had a slight program revision
i dont own the Expert Travel
Cosmic traveler Regards
Steve
A computer that you don't own?!?!
Just contemplating buying an Expert before they get deleted......... I got caught like that with the Star Diamond until rescued this week by Eric! It arrived today and apart from being a totally different shade of grey to what I was expecting the Star Diamond is a lovely machine
Off for a lie down from the shock regards

Steve
PS..i do own the Star Sapphire which is the same program
very good computers ..you made a wise choice
Wowzer!!!
I also thought you had one (or even two) of everything?!
The Star Diamond is currently pilling on the pressure as white in a Sicilian @ 40 in 2 hours.
The best thing is the Missus hasn't even noticed I've got a new computer despite playing in the living room whilst she's watching TV
Guess who hid all the packaging before she got home regards

When you are done playing the Star Diamond, how about doing us a
favor? Play some blitz games between Star Diamond and Atlanta, and
tell us how they went against each other. I know the Atlanta is rated
about 100 points stronger, but sometimes, due to playing style, a lower
rated machine can hold it's own against a stronger one, particularly on
the shorter time setting. For example, my Saitek Cougar seems to be
able to cope with the London Pro on 10secs/move, but not on 30secs/move.
all the best, and congrats on the SD
Larry
PS Take good care of the Atlanta, I'm looking forward to buying it
off you.

The TC2100 is better in my eyes, even it was the predecessor of Cosmos and ETC.Wardy wrote:Hi All,

The reasons:
The TC2100 does not have some of the famous bugs of Cosmos/ETC; the h-file bug (http://www.schach-computer.info/wiki/in ... ans_Morsch)
and the fun level bug (which can be very annoying!)
Additional he can play with the white pieces from the bottom without problem (Cosmos/ETC can do this of course too, but then the library is disabled!)
I played two identical games with TC2100 and Cosmos (giving the same opening and repeatedly pressing Enter); they were always answering absolutely identical (the answering times were so close together, that you could hear only one single "beep")
The only time, where they answered differently, was, when i stopped and continued the game later; maybe the Cosmos-CPU is a revised one, so perhaps the "hold" function is working in a different way and gives different answers after continuing (but when i took back this move, they were again answering identical at this point)
Steve seems to be right, when he says, the program of the TC2100 was modified in the Cosmos, but Frans should have better spent the time with his family...
best regards,
Robert

Wiki rating list gives both Cosmos and TC the exact same rating, pretty
much same everything:
http://www.schach-computer.info/wiki/in ... tek_Cosmos
http://www.schach-computer.info/wiki/in ... mpion_2100
I know Wiki could be wrong, but we have to believe someone!
I've got the TC2100, groovy little machine.

however Selective Search rates them slightly differently with the Cosmos higherLarry wrote:I played two identical games with TC2100 and Cosmos (giving the same opening and repeatedly pressing Enter); they were always answering absolutely identical (the answering times were so close together, that you could hear only one single "beep")

Re: Collectors Corner - Travel Champion 2100 and later model
Hi Steve,
It means, that of 100 games between Cosmos and TC2100, the Cosmos would win 53 and the TC2100 47.
Even if you let a computer play against itself, the difference can be higher...
nothing is proven regards,
Robert
the difference, that you stated, was 24 points. This is so small; statistically, that does mean absolutely nothing!Steve B wrote: however Selective Search rates them slightly differently with the Cosmos higher

?Additional he can play with the white pieces from the bottom without problem (Cosmos/ETC can do this of course too, but then the library is disabled!)
you can easily let it play with white from the bottom:
make new game.
make enter.
it plays - lets say 1.c4
press new game
make option AUTO ANSWER = OFF
input 1.c4 from the bottom, white pieces playing to the top.
make option AUTO ANSWER = ON again
and input the answer on ETC's move, e.g. 1...c6
into the machine. it computes WITH book and i had never any problems.
similar kind of trick is possible with Saitek Leonardo/Galileo/Renaissance.
after you press NEW GAME and put all pieces in the beginning position just take ONE piece from the board and press PLAY, it will THAN play from the bottom . you can THEN put the left piece to the position to and continue the game.
