I asked some hint in CCC forum, without answer. Let us see here.
a) where in Manhattan to find a good chess store, not JUST a bohemian place to see guys playing chess.
b) answer fast: I go this Sunday

all good chess shops are in the East Village in lower Manhattan

two shops that are located right next to each and within walking distance are:

the Chess Shop
http://www.chess-shop.com/

the Chess Forum
Neighborhood: Manhattan/Greenwich Village
219 Thompson St
(between 3rd St & Bleecker St)
New York, NY 10012
(212) 475-2369

they have sets, books, magazines,Software and even some chess computers..and of course you can play skittles or longer timed games but you must pay a fee per hour to play

these shops are also not far from Washington Square Park where you can play chess on outdoor tables for free against other players

Washington Square park is where the chess tables are located that were shown in the movie Searching for Bobby Fischer..this is where little Josh Watzkin used to play blitz games against street hustlers and he would kick their butts..

...I believed ICD was out of Manhattan, BUT if it is inside the island, I will go there, of course. I am interested in a tiny hand held unit by ExcaLIBUR CALLED SOMETHING LIKE TOUCH EXPRESS. Do you know something about it? It's the same De luxe program? Wortst? Better?
TELL ME and do not forget I will be in a hotel in 103 street called Marrakesh.

if you mean the new Deluxe chess ...it is not yet available
there is nothing new under the sun yet

ICD is located in Long Island not Manhattan
they are about a 45 minute drive from where you will be located

Yours are the words of an immensely rich person, but I scarcely get the money to pay a hot soup. So, instead of rubbing on my face your luxurious standard of life, be humble and pitiful and make the questions.....

You will pay in the after life your proud aTTITUDE regards

i know of a Mephisto Master released in 2004
programmed by Morch and rated just under 2100

perhaps you mean the Saitek Maestro?
i do not own this computer but i know it is very weak
perhaps 1450 Elo..you will lose interest in it quickly

if you want to buy something new while you are on holiday then i guess the best to buy as new would be the Saitek Expert travel

will play about 2000 Elo for the same $80 bucks..i think programmed by Kaplan

LCD Chess Express

Post by ruffsteve »

Hi Fern,

Not sure if the machine you were thinking of was the LCD Chess Express by Excalibur? Nice and cheap with a few features to keep you interested :)

Its not a touch screen, but instead the cursor is moved by a multi functional keypad.

Goto http://www.xs4all.nl/~tluif/weblog/05DEC05.html which is a page from Tom Luifs web blog......he was quite impressed, as was I.

Recommended as value for money

Cheers Steve
