When can we expect Hiarcs 12 to be released?
Hello,
Can we expect Hiarcs 12 to be released by the end of this year?
Like everyone else here, I'm really looking forward to it. From what Harvey has said on other forums concerning the beta versions of Hiarcs 12, it appears that it's going to be a very serious threat to a certain "little fish" (you know the one I mean!).
Regards,
David,
England.

We certainly hope to release it before the end of the year. Although there is no firm date yet.
Best Wishes,
Harvey

Hi,
We do not normally release our test results. As far as betas go Mark produces several sometimes 2 or 3 in 1 week.

HI Fern, fern wrote:And,. I insist, not just a new, stronger engine with the same gui or lack of it. I even miss the old gui, do you remember?
Come on, Mark!!!
A GUI is something we have talked about but it is a lot of work but it is a conversation that we keep having!?
As far as the old GUI goes - I suspect you mean the one that came with Hiarcs 7? I think it will only run in dos so would need a complete re-write.
I wonder if anyone has a picture of that old GUI they can paste here?
Best Wishes,
Harvey
Hello again, Harvey.
I was just downstairs in the garage looking through some boxes for my old Hiarcs. Hiarcs5, I believe. It was on a floppy disk, and I seem to recall that the logo was in blue lettering. Alas, I couldn't find it. Really liked the early Hiarcs. ChessGenius2, Fritz2, Chessmaster3000.... And my beloved Fidelity Chess Challenger berating me from the corner for my affairs with other chess programs. ("But they mean NOTHING to me, my friend. It was innocent, I tell you!") Then Fidelity would punish me horribly in about 25 moves and sit there blinking its little red lights at me condescendingly. (A couple of times I unceremoniously yanked his plug, I admit it.)
Your post about the H7 gui moved me to look for my old v.5. Pity I could not find it. Steve likely has multiple copies stashed away as a hedge against inflation.
Regards,
Robert

would you be talking about the 68000 Dual Processor EAG?
commonly known as the EAG V5??
if so...you have such a computer???
Regards
Steve
No. Sorry Steve. In fact, I don't have any advanced computers like that. Mine are all carved from bamboo and given designations like, "Slow," and "Slower," and, "Hasn't Responded Since Margaret Thatcher's First Really Dull Vote-Of-Confidence Victory Party." Although I could be making this up. I can't be certain.

And the version 10 was the rarest Fidelity product ever openly sold?Steve B wrote:V5 you say?drbob wrote: Your post about the H7 gui moved me to look for my old v.5. Pity I could not find it. Steve likely has multiple copies stashed away as a hedge against inflation.

It was based on a 68040 at 25Mhz if my memory serves.
Now given the V9 was a 68030 running at 33Mhz (or was it faster, Steve?) was the V10 that much faster than the V9 version?

only 50 units were made and it is unclear how many of them were actually sold
legend has it that less then 10 were sold as the selling price brand new was close to $10,000
you are right as usual Mark on the specs(V9 was 32 Mhz)each with 1 Meg of Ram
i couldnt say how much faster it really was as i dont own the V10
as to the rarest Fidelity..i would have to say there were some even rarer
in that category i would place either of the Dual Processor EAG's(V5 or V 8 )
as there are NO known owners in the world today
Interestingly the Spracklens wrote a special addendum to the owners manual for the Dual Processor Eag's explaining why there is only a speed up of 1.7x that can be noticed rather then the theoretical 2X one might have expected
there are other Fidelity rarer birds such as the Decorator and the Grandmaster Voice but for these computers there are a few known owners
51x Regards
Steve
