Obsidian - TC2100

Analysis by Deep Fritz 12:

1. =/+ (-0.49): 16...Rad8 17.Nxe5 Rxd5 18.Qe2 Rc5 19.Bd3 Bd6 20.Nf3 Nc4 21.Be4 Bxe4 22.Qxe4 Be5 23.Rb1 Rd8 24.Nxe5 Qxe5 25.Bf4 Qxe4 26.Rxe4 g5 27.Be3 Nxe3 28.Rxe3 Rc2 29.Re7
2. = (0.01): 16...Rac8 17.Rxe5 Qxc2 18.Qxc2 Rxc2 19.Rxe7 Bxd5 20.Nd4 Nc6 21.Nxc2 Nxe7 22.Nb4 Bb7 23.Bf4 Ng6 24.Be3 a5 25.Nc2 Rd8 26.Nd4 Nf4
3. = (0.25): 16...Rfe8 17.b3 Rad8 18.Bd2 Rxd5 19.Be4 Rd6 20.Rc1 Qb6 21.Bxb7 Qxb7 22.Nxe5 Red8 23.Nf3 Nc6 24.Qc2 Bf6 25.Bf4 Nd4
4. = (0.27): 16...Rfc8 17.Bf5 Re8 18.Nxe5 Bb4 19.Re4 Rxe5 20.Bf4 Bd6 21.Bxh7+ Kxh7 22.Bxe5 Bxe5 23.Qh5+ Kg8 24.Rxe5 Nc4 25.Re2 Qd7

Rad8 would appear to be the most natural move gaining control of the d file. Hopefully my TC will follow through on it's previous analysis....

as expected......

Rad8

same continuation and same score of 0.0

Didn't quite finish searching at 11 ply but was pretty close, no drop in nodes/sec so I assume the position gets more complicated despite having a few fewer pieces.

A couple of hours in multi pv mode on Sallys quad core gives

Again, the Obsidian finished early by some unknown period of time. It had made it to ply 11 after 16 hours or so.

In the past I've commented that I didn't own any chess pieces which were "ebonized" (stained/painted black). But this was incorrect as the black pieces which came with the Obsidian are stained. They look decent, but aren't as good as real ebony pieces.

A slightly odd choice of move from the Obsidian there, breaks the general rule of developing minor pieces before rooks and allows the TC2100 to get the Knight away from the edge of the board and save a tempo at the same time. I can only assume it rates rook mobility a bit high in it's evaluation in this instance.

Looking at the position I'd say black has the smallest of advantages at this stage, certainly whites advantage of the first move is nullified.

All analysis by a patzer, your mileage may vary.......

f6 weakens the king safety whilst still leaving the knight at the edge of the board so I hope it doesn't play this ;-)
For the whole search to date the tc2100 is looking at moving the knight to attack the rook. Currently part way through 10ply.

Nc4 as expected with a score of -0.2 for black.

The TC completed an 11 ply search but had only got as far as the 1st move of a 12 ply search.

It has the slightly awkward looking continuation of

Re2 Rxd5
Nd2

so the TC may also over rate rook mobility in this position.

Sallys quad chewed on the position to 33ply with

.....Nc4
Re2 Bxd5

which looks much more natural and Fritz also has black ahead here

Ballsy aggressive move that perhaps leaves too much hanging and after Bf6 the b2 pawn must fall even though white can open up the black kings position

Fritz has after a short run

Obsidian - TC2100

Analysis by Deep Fritz 12:

1. -/+ (-1.06): 18...g6 19.Re1 Bf6 20.Bh6 Bxb2 21.Rab1 Rxd5 22.Qb3 Bg7 23.Bxg7 Kxg7 24.Be4 Rc5 25.Bxb7 Qxb7 26.Qc3+ Kg8 27.a4 Rd8 28.axb5 axb5 29.Nd4 Qd5 30.Rbd1

all the way to 9ply the TC wants to follow the first 3ply of the fritz analysis though with a score of -0.1 so hasn't seen the full combination yet
