Hi Folks,

I was expecting 21... b5 and various pawn-pushes to follow - this of course is still possible! :-(

My initial thought was simply to play 22.Qe3 but H12 prefers either Kf1 or h3 so . . . I am going to bow to the superior tactical knowledge of my playing partner - there must be some back-row concerns that he (H12's playing characteristics feel more masculine to me - I hope this doesn't offend anyone - certainly my silicone friend continues to analyse in a contented way!) so using that tried an tested decision-making tool - eeney, meeney, minee, mow - 22.h3

The team expected 22.Qc3. Did you consider this?

Hi Harvey,

I did yes, and Qb1 also. I preferred Qe3 though as I didn't want to take my Queen off the e-file. After Nxd4 (and various exchanges) I could see that my Rook would have to come to the e-file so in the end felt Qe3 was better. However, as I said, my silicone friend didn't like any Queen moves (or if it did then it did so when I wasn't looking) - H12 simply felt Kf1 and h3 were the moves of choice. At least I can claim I recognised the threats by not playing Qb1 or Qc3 - perhaps I missed something that your team has seen - I would be pleased to see the analysis after the game.

Cheers,

Hi Folks,

Well now I understand Harvey's question - I entered 21... Ke7 and not 21. . . Kd7 in to my playing partners brain! :-(

Obviously 22.Qc3 would have been the right move to play following 21. . . Kd7. I guess this is the peril of trying to fit so much in! :-(

If after my 22.h3 your team play 22... Kc8 (I would!) then I will continue 23.Rd1. My playing partner wants to play 23.Qe2 or 23.Qe4 (preferring 23.Qe2) however on this occasion I'm going it alone, besides, I suspect I have upset him (H12) so not too sure I can rely on his analysis at the moment - I'm sure he will get over it if we can somehow get a draw from this one!

I definitely prefer black now (I've turned H12 off; I should be safe saying this)! :-)

Hi David,

if it is ok with you we would like to resume play from the correct position after 21...Kd7 so request that you re-post your 22nd move for White.

Hi Folks,

That of course would be very acceptable to me.

H12 thought 22.Ne5+

Good morning Folks,

Well there are so many ways to continue. The lines I considered were:
23.a4; Ng5; Ne5+ and Re1

H12 also liked 23.Ne5+; Ng5 and a4

My instinct tells me Ng5 although H12 preferred (finally) Ne5+ (at least on my laptop). So, I have decided not to commit to either plan just yet; I'm going to keep you guessing! :-)

I play 23.a4

Hi Folks,

I will play 24.Re1 (H12 thought either 24.Rd1 or 24.Re1)

I will be away in London from Friday morning; returning Sunday night.

Cheers,

Hi Folks,

Now back from sunny London - although cloudy as least it's not raining here in Yorkshire!

Well it has to be said, my playing partner and I are feeling a bit of pressure! :-(

We both accept the line offered yet we have a slightly different view on how best to continue. I know H12 is very good at seeing tactics and therefore suspect I may have this wrong. H12 on my laptop would like to continue 27.Qe5 - this obviously loses the knight but suggests the white queen remains on the board. However, the line I will play is 27.Qb4 and offer . . .

27... Rd1+ 28.Re1 c3 29.Qxc3 Rxe1+ 30.Qxe1 Bb3 31.a5 Rd1 32.Qxd1 Bxd1 33.Kf1

Over to you.
