SEMI-FINALS, Match Two

Post by TracySMiller »

Defenchess makes it a perfect 5-0 with another flawless endgame. After a flurry of exchanges, it emerged a pawn up, so quickly forced trades to get the remaining pieces off the board and win the endgame in a true Karpov/Petrosian style. Defenchess is now a win/draw away from joining Arasan in the FINALS.

WHITE DGT Centaur
BLACK Defenchess
RESULT 0-1

SEMI-FINALS, Match Two

Post by TracySMiller »

Defenchess cruises to the FINALS with a drubbing of the mighty DGT Centaur. The Centaur allowed Defenchess to takes its b7 pawn. Soon, the a7 pawn fell, then a pawn on the other side of the board, then another. Defenchess forced a trade of Queens and never looked back, winning the match 6-0, setting the stage for the Arasan vs Defenchess FINAL, which will be Best of 12. Should be a fascinating match, sort of a Fischer vs Karpov matchup.

WHITE Defenchess
BLACK DGT Centaur
RESULT 1-0

Defenchess is around 3270, but Arasan should win the Final as it’s graded above 3400.

FINALS

Post by TracySMiller »

The finals gets underway with a squeaky clean draw. I don't think either side ever had more than a 0.5 advantage, and by move 30 it was clear this was a draw. I played a few more moves just to make sure, but the draw was never in doubt. Has the mighty Arasan finally met its match?

In a master class on defense, Defenchess somehow survives Arasan's two passed pawns to procure the draw in a Sicilian Defense. The match is tied 1.0-1.0.

BLACK Defenchess 2.2

In yet another magical defence, Defenchess survives a brutal King assault by Arasan's Queen and two Rooks to keep the match even at 1.5-1.5. I mean, would you want to defend this position as White versus Arasan? Well, Defenchess did, and got a draw.

WHITE Defenchess 2.2
BLACK Arasan 23.3
RESULT 0.5-0.5

In yet another miraculous game, Defenchess survives an Arasan assault on its naked King and is forced to give up its Queen, then proceeds to trap Arasan's Queen and forces a repetition of position to keep the match even at 2.0-2.0.

In the following position, White (Arasan) plays 26. e6+ to win Defenchess's Queen.

But Defenchess traps the White Queen, which can't escape the Rook attacks:

WHITE Arasan 23.3
BLACK Defenchess 2.2
RESULT 0.5-0.5

Arasan draws first blood in Game Five against Defenchess. Arasan emerged from a complicated exchange in the early middle game a pawn up and played a flawless endgame to earn the win and take a 3.0-2.0 lead in the match. Defenchess resigned after the 91st move when it finally saw the forced mate.

WHITE Defenchess 2.2
BLACK Arasan 23.32
RESULT 0-1
