Which Book format?

Post by Patatov »

Hello,

I have HCE 1.7 for Mac.
From http://www.hiarcs.com/chess-opening-book-free.htm, it looks like I can download some extra books... What format do I need to download to use with HCE? Shouldn't be .hcs? My Books folder is empty but I see statistics when I enable book explorer... Where is the information coming from?
If I buy the subscription version what would be the format I need? and can these books be available with other engines under HCE Mac (Like Stockfish and Critter)?

Thanks!

With HCE you get access on online books via the Opening Explorer view (source GM and if you have the Deep version the GM+ book).

The free book files on the webpage you mentioned are for use on other chess GUIs. In any case they are older than the books available from HCE.

There are two book subscription options if you want more books, we have some of the largest, strongest and most up to date opening books available, the book subscription options are explained here:
http://www.hiarcs.com/opening-books.htm

The most cost effective option for HCE customers is the book access subscription which gives access from the HCE Opening Explorer view to the Tournament and Human Reference. No separate downloads.

We do not supply books that other engines can use. Although of course you can use the Opening Explorer view with analysis from any engine.
Best wishes,
Mark
