Sorry to hear about your 12 core. I get quite attached to my machines.Harvey Williamson wrote:
Jonny runs on a University cluster in Germany. Sadly the 12 core I used to have is no longer with us. Amir is actually running the machine with ht on so 48 threads.
Am REALLY intrigued by the Junior team using HT. Most programmers would say HT hurts but especially going from 24 to 48 threads where (I would have thought) it would be very hard to show a gain but very easy to show a loss in performance.
You couldn't do an undercover investigation, could you?

I don't think I've ever seen so many English openings at a computer event! Just a few years ago, it was all about the Najdorf Byrne attack. What determines these opening trends?
I'm also surprised that the opening prep seems to break off around move 14 in most games. I have been expecting another 50 move book game like we saw a few years ago.

One of the funniest moments of the trip was when we all went to a middle eastern restaurant. The owner was from Lebanon. He decided Amir was not using his Pita bread in the correct way to pick up food and so decided to give his Israeli neighbour a lesson in how to eat Middle Eastern food I wish I had taken a photograph.
