If they are 10mhz then why does'nt it say "10mhz on the front of
the program module, like this one?...

Or are they some sort of factory upgrade?
anyone shed light on this?

i have never heard of Mephisto offering factory upgrades to the normal 5 Mhz Polgar and even if they did they would not leave the program module labeling unchanged like that

the display is showing the normal Polgar 10 Mhz start-up screen
If it were a custom tuned(modified) 5 Mhz to 10 Mhz then someone would have had to also modify the eprom to display "10,0" on the start-up screen..the 5 Mhz Polgar of course does not display that
i guess its possible though
you sometimes see this kind of home modification with the normal 5 Mhz MMV module being over clocked to 10 Mhz and offered for sale on Ebay

another possibility is that someone simply copied a 10 Mhz eprom from a Polgar 10 and snapped it into the normal Polgar 5 module..
of course that means its not running at the faster clock speed

Rather Odd Regards

I thought I recalled Mephisto releasing a speed doubled Polgar. Some mention of it here ...

http://www.stmintz.com/ccc/index.php?id=461359

Edit: It is also recorded in Eric Hallsworth's Selective Search dedicated chess computer rating list as 5 MHz= 1963 Elo and 10 MHz as 2034 so quite a significant performance increase!

The Point of the discussion Peter is that the Polgar 10 sold by Mephisto ...is clearly marked "10 Mhz" on the module casing
this module being offered does not have that marking
it is labeled like a normal Polgar 5

Of course Im not an expert but true 10Mhz Polgar modul requires modified board and I saw only several Modular but never Exclusive made so. This way it looks like just EPROM has been changed... fake...
