Fidelity Chess Pal Chess Computer Prototype?

Hi,

I just got into collector chess computers I came across a weird one. I have a Fidelity International Chess Pal and I think it is a prototype. It has an adapter hard wired to it and the manual has no mention of an adapter. When you open the battery compartment there are no connectors to even power the chess computer. Is this actually a prototype or an effect of outsourcing production to countries like Hong Kong? :shock: Can supply pics if necessary. Thanks!
