Fidelity Elite A/S on British ebay...

Post by Larry »

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... ink:top:en

Modified, and therefore with little collector value, but an
interesting piece, nonetheless. It has all five opening books,
a disconnected voice feature and is overclocked to 5mhz.
Sadly, no original box, it seems... but in superlative condition
from what I can see.

Hi Larry,

i think not that this auction is with low collector value. It is original modified from Fidelity (speed and books)! So it is original and not often to find.
I think it will sell to a known named person and i think it will priced higher as a normal Elite A/S.

Perhaps not many will find the auction, but we will see...

Hi Jose, Well if Fidelity did the speed and the books, then the only
real modification is the disconnected voice which is easily reconnected.
This would make the unit original and the only bummer is the missing
box. Rest assured the collectors are like hawks studying their prey.
I will follow the auction and watch the final seconds bidding war.

Larry
PS... the "known named person"... does he have the initials 'SB'?

Hi Jose
Fidelity did offer a 5mhz upgrade for the EAS but AFAIK they never offered a factory upgrade with built in ECO modules like this
can i ask you how you know the upgrade was Fidelity factory authorized ?
the auction does not mention it was a Fidelity upgrade..it only mentions it is modified
i have heard of home-made modifications where the ECO modules were incorporated into other EAS and Prestige Computers
these were not Fidelity authorized upgrades
here is an example:

Highly Doubtful Regards

Hi Steve,

i ask the seller. He told me that he order that to do this after he bought it.
I think it was like Reckwitz done by some fidelity in germany in order for fidelity.
But i will ask again from who exactly...
Thanks José

I Already contacted the seller using the Ebay message system
the ECO book add-on was not authorized by Fidelity
i do not think the 5 Mhz upgrade was performed by Fidelity either

i think this is a private modification using the authentic ECO eproms
perhaps similar to Herr Bucke's EAG V11 modification,or probably a one-of-a-kind...one-shot-deal mod

there were several messages back and forth
the Seller responded quickly each time...

I ASKED ..

Hi
Can i ask if the modifications in this computer were performed and authorized by the Fidelity factory or were they home modifications made by you or a previous owner?
Thanks

SELLER REPLIED...

Hello Mr. Blincoe (i presume)......There are no modifications. This is a new board with all the program codes built-on. The only thing that was authorised by the "Fidelity Factory"......were 3.6 MHz and 4 MHz machines that were in reality running at 2 and 2.5 MHz respectively....according to my frequency-counter and 'scope at pin-37 of the CPU !
The rotary switch works great....setting it to library-B, i force-played a Lopez-Exchange using the RV button and was not surprised to see the line end at b5xc6 due to the fact that this is the wrong book. The program then prompted for library-C via the display and simply turning the rotary-switch to "C", the program proceeded quite deeply into the correct variation.

All the best, the Siliconmind.

I THEN FOLLOWED UP WITH ...

Thanks for your reply
do i know you?
you seem to know me

i am not sure what you mean exactly
you say "The only thing that was authorised by the "Fidelity Factory"......were 3.6 MHz and 4 MHz machines " and here you are selling a computer with built in ECO modules which i have never seen before
i'll put the question differently..
was this computer sold to you directly by Fidelity or one of the Fidelity Retailers in the UK?
do you have any written documentation (sales receipt, advertising brochure..etc..etc..)
mentioning the built in modules?
i am not trying to be difficult i just want to know if this is the "real deal" before i bid on it
i have no interest in Privately modified computers
my area of interest is in computers released for sale in their original state or upgraded
by the company that made them
Regards
Steve

TO WHICH HE REPLIED...
Mr. Blincoe......this machine, it is not for you.
All the best, the Siliconmind.

its a modified computer...
now this is not to suggest it wont sell for a high price
it looks to be in Pristine condition and
the ECO 5 module set alone retailed for $600
of course each ECO module came in its own box with instructions
anyway..if i didn't own it already i would be much more interested in the other current EBay EAS auction with Impact printer(currently $264 as i write)
no tinkering/fiddling around on that computer
Case Closed Regards

Hi Steve,

the seller still not answer me to my last question. But if i read your version i think you are right.
And how he write it sounds like that he is a expert in technical details.
However, modified like that also was done from Reckwitz, perhaps nit the books, thats right.
I think it is a very interesting machine. I still have a very nice machine tuned up from Mr. Reckwitz. :)
Many thanks

Well it sells for 1/3 the price of the previous EAS from 5 days ago

Perhaps the additional $1800 was for the Impact Printer after all

You don't suppose the $1800 printer was a special edition that
prints $100 bills, do you? If that's the case, boy did we miss
a bargain.

Prices are cratering for EAS's..
this one goes for not even $500
from $2700 to $835 and now $485
all in only two weeks
if this keeps up ..soon an EAS seller will have to pay the buyer to
take the computer off his hands

It Haada be that Printer Regards

Hi all!
So to stop alle the rumors about the Elite A/S...ist modified with a brand new PCB from "SB" ;-) http://www.great-game-machine.com/

This is the first of a kind for the Elite A/S ...and i have to tell u..
It's playing great @ 5Mhz ... but sadly the rotary switch for selecting ECO A-E doesn't work as expected.

Could you be more specific? I'd hate to have that on there if it wasn't working.

...it unfortunately often locks up when rotating the switch.
However as the unit was in great condition..a good buy with the new faster PCB.
