Scisys Turbo King II

Post by IvenGO »

Hi all, I know it is nearly to impossible that somebody will sell this device but if this lucky accident will take a part - I have 2 questions:

1) how to be sure that its TK II and not simple TK - all pictures/photos I'd seen in web are identical (?!) ;

2) is it possible to tune/speed up its CPU to 10Mhz (and could this action give a real strength perfomance, about +50 ELO-points or more) ?

THX in advance!

Hi Iven, This question was raised a couple of years back when I was
looking for a Turbo King II. The TK2 runs at a slightly higher clock speed,
but checking this means taking the back off. In standard form, the TK2
has an added ROM chip. This is easily checked by taking the ROM door
off the back. This chip has a data base giving perfect play for
K+p vs K+p and for K+2p vs K+p, but in the second case the pawns
must be blocked. Pretty good for it's day. Someone might have said
there is an indication on the box, but I can't remember how to check
that out.
Someone else might shed some more light on this,
hope I've helped,
all the best

Hi Larry, thx for reply! So You mean that the only difference between simple TK and TK II is a 2nd endgame-ROM inside? and it gives TK II 1868 ELO in compare with 1806 for simple TK? or I havent understand something correctly?

Hi Iven, yep, others have commented on this too. The TK2 runs at
6mhz, and the TK at 5mhz, as I remember. This should only be good for
perhaps 10 - 15 elo gain.Add this to the endgame ROM
which only affects simple K and P endings, and you would not normally
expect a playing strength gain of 60 elo. I say don't bother whether you
end up with a TK or a TK2.
all the best,
Larry

Does anyone know exactly which programm version contains TK II: D or D+ ? Or D+ is available only with Analyst/Maestro modules?

Thanks in advance!
