Question regarding EAG power adaptor

Post by Larry »

I came across a Fidelity EAG minus a power adaptor, and am on the
lookout for one. In the schachcomputer.info site it gives the adaptor
output as "9V~/1.1A"
Does this mean 9volts AC?...ie, does the "~" mean alternating current?
Steve?...anyone?...
nice day all..

Hi Larry,
you can use any power adapter direct current DC (but please use a stabilized one) with 9 Volt and at least 1500 mAh ...

It is correct the old Fidelity machines using adapter with alternating current AC but the computer will covert it on the inside to 5 Volt DC ...

Best Regards,
Sascha

In Addition to Sascha's reply
Fidelity only made two adaptor's for all of their chess computers

a single pronged and double pronged
i imagine Larry ,you should have one of each with your extensive collection?
or are you not able to use original Fidelity adaptors being located "Down Under"?
the single pronged inserts directly into the computer
while the double pronged connects to the computer via a two pronged lead

IIRC the Super 9 took a double pronged?
if so ..that adaptor will work

Up Over Regards

OK, thanks for the replies, guys.
Yes, the AC output adaptor I use for the VSC and Super9 does the trick.
The machine powers up with the sweet Fidelity startup jingle, and both
displays come on with no bad segments. The seller did say it had problems
with reed switches. He was right, no fewer than seven squares insisted on
staying lit up. I will replace all 64 switches.
It's a beautiful machine and you can see why they are sought after. Mine
is also minus pieces, I'm using Novag Expert pieces until I make up a set.

Hi Steve, good thing you asked. When I first picked it up I assumed it
was the common earlier version, which I think is a jazzed up Par
Excellence. As I studied it I looked to the right hand corner and there
was the metal plate with "2325" etched on it. I have'nt been savvy with
EAG models, so I looked on the back for the model number, and was
surprised to see 6117-9. I still was'nt too sure what this meant. I do
now though, since getting it home and checking schachcomputer.info.
It's the rare version 9. Just to be sure someone had not switched the
bottom of this comp with another one, I unscrewed the base and read
the processor details. It's a 68030 alright. I had hit pay dirt!
It came with the original box, and two owner's manuals, both English,
no pieces. The machine itself is particularly good cosmetically. One of
the styrofoam shapes is missing.
You might not believe this next bit... I went to the ultrarare section
of your website and zoomed in on the back plate of your version 9.
I'm not pulling your leg...
This is your version 9 serial# 92570010
This is my version 9 serial# 92570011
CONSECUTIVE NUMBERS!
You state that there were only 50 produced, so perhaps not that high
a coincidence, but remember that Fidelity did not only produce chess
computers, but also other electronic games, and other non chess stuff,
including prosthetic limbs, I have heard. It does mean that both our
machines sat on the production bench together once.
take care...
Larry
PS I'm not good at putting photos up on the site. I managed it several
years back but have since forgotten. I'll try to figure it out again and
put a few shots up of this one, including the back plate.

Yep, the real McCoy. During my five or so years as a collector, I have
knowingly overpaid for some machines, while getting bargains on others.
Happens to us all, no?
V9 regards
