feedback, and has been a registered ebay member for a few days.
No mention of the machine actually working. The description is very

I quite enjoy its playing style, too. Subtle, but deadly...

what the seller does mention in his brief description is that there is NO adaptor
unless someone gets the seller to show that the computer works ..
im thinking one would find better odds over at the Roulette wheel

Indeed! I spent north of 200 pounds when I purchased mine seventeen years ago. (Which would have been about one weeks wages at the time - what was I thinking???)

This machine would have cost me less than two hours....

Sir Nigel usually sells for around 200 Euro on Ebay (depending on condition and completeness)..which means it held its value fairly well over the years

this one sold for so little because the seller restricted where he would ship to and because there is a good chance it doesn't even work
(although it seems the seller has already received positive feedback from the buyer)

even if it is defective ... who cares? You get a Milano for 50,- Euro on ebay Germany ... the electronic is the same ... to switch the cases takes 30 Minutes ... change the EPROMs ... and here we go ... still cheaper than 200,- Bucks ...

if the seller cannot show it is working you just never know what can be wrong with it
there is always the chance that the eprom is what is defective

just recently i had an eprom for the MMIV lose half of its information
no idea why..
there is also the chance that there is no eprom in the computer to begin with..
this actually happened to a fellow collector..not long ago ..
after buying a 300 Euro chess computer on ebay..also here ..the seller said he had no power adaptor and could not show the computer was working ..computer arrives and the eproms were missing

i do agree that the price was so small that it was worth the gamble though..
if i didnt already own the NS i would probably have tossed up a $50 bid just to see if it would win

can take a small risk at times regards

The other week a Fidelity Travelmaster went for ~$23. This week a
Mephisto Nigel Short goes for ~$40. Both these auctions went the
full distance.
You guys don't suppose we are
seeing dedicated chess computers entering a deflationary cycle here,
do you? Others on the German forum were commenting recently on
this also, with one suggesting the younger generation are simply not
into the hobby as much as the oldies.
With all this in mind, I am making a generous offer of $100 to
anyone out there with a TASC R40. Must be complete and mint, of course.
