I have it on good authority Dave that Novag only released a Female version of Amber
sorry to say you must have a modified (cross-dressing ) version
:P

Seriously though.. the two games vs Jade II were at the faster TC of Game 30 ..while the games against the Cosmos and Amber were at 40/2 so that is the reason for the wide difference in results
0-2 vs 1.5-.5
however another game vs Miss Amber would only seem fair
V4 gets white in the next game though
will post the game this weekend

LH
Your right about the endgame play
i actually expected Amber to nuisance check the V4 all over the board with her R ..when it was clear she was lost.. but it didnt turn out that way

In Preparation for the revenge match this weekend
Amber played a training match..Game 10 Min. against the Kasparov Blitz Board
The Blitz board is one of the most unusual chess computers ever sold as it has no
keys or buttons
two dials control all of the functions..the only computer ever to work this way
the board is auto-sensory but not with the usual reed switches
instead the board works by electromagnetic induction from the pieces which work with no other board
and no other pieces will work with the Blitz board
Defect rates for the Blitz board were very high and Saitek released no other Engines in this housing
A Perfect training partner is one that will be easy to beat in order to boost the confidence and here the Blitz fit the bill perfectly
Rated 1729 (Selective Search) it is a good 220 Pts lower then her Majesty ..Amber

In the Game ..
Blitz had White
Amber was first to leave her book after 9 moves
Blitz Could only manage 4 ply at this TC.. while Amber was smokin 6 Ply
Seeing deeper and faster Amber sacks a B to rip open the Blitz K side
Blitz couldn't recover and was soon mated...

Tickets are selling out rapidly. Ringside seats are no longer available. There hasn't been this much attention given to an Amber since Amber and Boston Rob from Survivor. And speaking of the Book, the Las Vegas Book is 2:1 in favor of the........Amber, its previous loss and planned Black position notwithstanding!

The Revenge Game..

Due to overwhelming Hiarcs Forum membership demand( 1 member)...
The EAG V4 and Novag Amber cross swords once again

The Princess's managers considered it a huge psychological disadvantage
to have to play against another computer that was so much bigger and taller then Amber so they demanded that the
tournament organizers somehow equalize the physical difference in size and height between her and the V4

We met this demand by making her a bit taller ..

http://www.flickr.com/photos/10261668@N ... 0923818481

In the Game ..
40/2... Tournament books
V4 had White
In her training game Vs.the Saitek Blitz board,Amber As Black, humiliated the Blitz in a main line Ruy Lopez
now considering herself an expert in the opening,Amber decides to play the Ruy again
The V4 varies from the training match at move 9 with 9.c3(instead of 9.Nbd2)
Amber was first to leave book after 10 moves
Amber(now sitting face to face with the V4) saddles the V4 with weak doubled P's early on
playing accurately she simplifies the position and exchanges pieces whenever possible and eventually wins both P's
the resulting endgame was a bit tricky but Amber was able to bring home the point

And so, Amber re-affirms her Jade II ancestry. Pretty aggressive play for a princess! Could be several explanations for the difference between this match and the previous one. Most likely one is that since Amber was raised up to her opponent's level, she was given some forewarning as to where the EAG's pieces were going! 8)

Height matters seconded Regards,

Nice games from amber Steve. This machine is over 2000 elo rating and it is a clone of the novag turquoise , it runs with an H8 processor at 26,6 Mhz so it is not a piece of cake.

small but strong regards

EAG V5

Post by danykal »

Hi Steve ,

I see that you put my old V5 back to work and I am sure it loved it !
It's funny but I made such tests myself in 91-92 .
After getting interested for the first chess computers mephistos and Challenger I finally got my first in 82 if I remember well ,I got it in NY for about 150 usd ,it was a sensory 9. Then I got a Par Excellence that I still have in its original box and it still works fine but had a lot of bugs specially in problem solving mode , making pieces disappearing and creating others! Then I finally got serious with an EAG V2 in 90 that I paid about 1800 usd which was a fortune at the time , I was quite happy with it but when my father said he will stop at Miami coming from Costa Rica where he was working for the UN , I asked him if he could make a little detour by the Fidelity factory and get me a V5 which was not yet imported in France , he did it and offered it to me . I made then a lot of tests of V2 vs V5 and the poor V2 was losing most of the time, it was not fair the V5 has 2 brains ! Then I contacted a Fidelity manager that my father had met (he had been nice to sell the V5 directly to my father as normally they don't sell to private person but it was to export to France ),and he agreed to send me the motherboard of a V7 against the V2 one , it was called an upgrade and still cost me 1000 usd+ custom but it was still much cheaper than to buy the complete EAG v7 . Then it was the V5 that suffered alot making barely 30 % against this monster V7 , I made about 100 games of V2 vs V5 vs V7 and even a friend lend me a V6 to compete ,all those games where printed on the very nice little fidelity printer I got with the V7 mobo but they finished in the dustbin ,kept only a few (my rare victories !) ,then time passed and i lost interest ,I sold the V7 disguised in V2 (only the 2265 sign ) with the printer for 2000 usd and kept the V5 as it was a gift from my father ,that is also why I kept it for so long. But when I saw last june that a swiss guy sold one for 1780E (not even sending it outside his house !)I resigned myself to sell it as I was using it very seldomly and i thought there was a risc that the electronic fails and then it it would be worth almost nothing !
But doing so ,curiously, woke up again my old passion for chess computers, so I quickly bought an Exclusive Senator but the chinese board and pieces finition really sucked compare to the EAG so I sold it rapidly on ebay and got me an old Exclusive with MMIV , I found the size a little too small and got a Munchen board with MMVI modul which is about my strengh .
But I wanted a Magellan modul which is at my opinion the best deal for Price /strengh (not a collector point of view of course) , I bid on one 14 days ago on ebay.de and won the auction for 478 E
(http://www.ebay.de/itm/280781835059?ssP ... 1497.l2649 ) but I am worried I will never get it as the seller pretend to have send it 10 days ago but he never send me the tracking nb that I asked him several times !
I hope Paypal will get me my money back if it never arrive.
Anyway I am glad you enjoy the V5 which has finally find the hall of fame , the fantastic chess computer collection of yours !
I am now 65 and will retire next year from the university where I taught maths for almost 40 years and as you said ,when I died ,they will be more chess computers for sale on ebay because even if my 3 sons know a little about chess, none of them have the least interest in chess computers !
Best regards
Daniel

Thanks Steve ,
I joined the forum just because you were on it ,and I wanted to tell you the history of this V5 of yours that never passes through a resseller but came directly from the factory.
I am very disappointed by this german guy thoske who don't answer my mails , he had 39 good evals (but mostly as buyer ) and 100% rating,it proves you never can trust anybody on ebay and it's better to pay by Paypal. I saw on ebay a Vancouver 32b modul, starting bid at 300E but it comes from Hungary and nobody has dared to bid yet , I don't think I will either, even if he accept Paypal ,I don't want to file 2 complaints at the same time !
Best regards
