Monsieur Plastique wrote:Hi Steve,

I am thinking of a best of three gamesmatch between the SciSys Mark V and my 24 Mhz Star Opal, both sides 30 seconds per move.

As for Chessbase server time, two time windows would be OK. They are between 11.30 PM and 3.30 AM Chessbase server time, or 4.30 AM and 8.30 AM Chessbase server time. If those times are difficult then I can try and figure out something else.
ChessBase Server time is 6 hrs ahead of my time..
so that means 5:30 PM-9:30 PM
OR
10:30 pm -2:30 AM
my time..

lets go with 11.30 PM server time..this Saturday(January 02 2010)
in fact that is the exact time i am writing this post(5:26 PM my time)
i should be able to play a good 2 hours straight in that time frame

again i will be using the Mark VI-Philidor module(about 25 Elo stronger then the Mark V)
the chief reason for using the Philidor module is so i can use the sensor board attachment ..the Mark V module does not have a driver for the board
i shall be descending into the subterranean vaults and i will test the computer and attachment tomorrow to make sure all is in battle ready condition

as to pawn status..
i dont think Pawn status precludes you from playing Unrated Games in the engine room
i would be challenging you to a NO TIME LIMIT UNRATED GAME
we dont want the server to time us out

i asked here just to be sure

Pefect Steve. That makes it a 9.30 AM Sunday morning start for me. My Playchess user name is Oddglob. I have already been to the supermarket this afternoon to purchase a spare pack of AAA batteries, since the battery life on my turbocharged Star Opal is 30 hours instead of 100 ;) Apart from that, I need to put the Opal into some serious training today and tomorrow after looking at some Mark V versus Elegance games.

Let the whole World know that the New Year World Coffee House Rapid Play Dedicated Computer Match is on! Bring the family and make it great day out for everyone!

Now I am not trying to scare you or anything, but I found this abominable Star Opal move in my brother's 40 moves in 2 hours tournament database. Here, Star Opal plays 18...Qxd5?? I think this is even worse than blunder # 1 in the original post :(

[fen]r4rk1/ppPq3p/6p1/3P4/4p1p1/2P3B1/P1KN1PPP/R4B1R b - - 0 18[/fen]

Despite these chronic abominations, the Star Opal has still managed to somehow scrape through with a rating of around 1480 ELO in his database. However I believe there is an explanation for this rating. I notice that most of these horrors occur against machines that it is likely to statistically lose to anyway. So whether you lose because you are outplayed in an endgame or lose because you blunder your Queen away on a single stroke, the effect on the ELO is exactly the same.

All that said Steve, I think you and your Mark VI need to be afraid, very afraid. If ever there was a chess engine that played as if it were on drugs, this Star Opal is it.

Afraid??
I think not

The Mark VI has been tested and deemed Good To Go

in fact..i just finished a short training match against Robbolitto j34
results...

1 Scisys Mark VI +42/-25/=33 58.50 58.5/100
2 Robbolitto j34 +25/-42/=33 41.50 41.5/100

In light of the above results i would understand perfectly if you would rather quietly back out of the match
just send me a PM and we can discreetly forget all about it

Having defeated Robbo like a small child i thought it was time to have the Mark VI face some REAL competition

here we have the Peri Epsilon (which contains the Par Excellence program )playing white against the Mark VI

TC was 30 sec per move..

[Date "2009.12.31"]
[White "Peri Epsilon"]
[Black "Scisys Mark VI"]
[Time Control "30 Sec/Avg"]
[Result "0-1"]

1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.cxd5 exd5 4.Nc3 Nc6 5.Nf3 Nf6 6.Bf4 Bb4 7.Qd2 O-O
8.O-O-O Ne4 9.Qe1 Bf5 10.e3 Bxc3 11.bxc3 Qe7 12.Kb2 a5 13.Bd3 f6 14.Nh4
Be6 15.Bxe4 dxe4 16.d5 g5 17.dxe6 gxf4 18.exf4 Qxe6 19.f3 e3 20.f5 Qc4
21.Rd7 Rf7 22.Qg3+ Kh8 23.Rxf7 Qxf7 24.Re1 Qd5 25.Kb1 Qd3+ 26.Kb2 Rg8
27.Ng6+ hxg6 28.Qh4+ Kg7 29.f4 gxf5 30.a3 Qd2+ 31.Kb1 Re8 32.Qg3+ Kf7
33.Qh4 Qxc3 34.Qh5+ Kg7 35.Re2 Re4 36.g3 Qxa3 37.Rxe3 Rb4+ 38.Rb3 Rxb3+
39.Kc2 Rb2+ 40.Kd1 Qa1# 0-1

FINAL POSITION
[fen]8/1pp3k1/2n2p2/p4p1Q/5P2/6P1/1r5P/q2K4 w - - 0 41[/fen]

Somewhat remarkable in that the Par has a rating of 1832 while the Mark VI was rated 1428

after the game ..Sir Philidor asked to see the blunders that were posted here by the Star Opal(running on Steroids)

he asked me to leave you with this quote after reviewing the above posts

Bring it .." Regards

Well, double Pffft back to him

I shall look through my brother's databases tomorrow for an actual Star Opal win. Afterall, it had to have gotton it's 1480 rating from somewhere. I shall publish it here and watch Mark VI leak capacitor electrolyte all over it's sleek plastique chassis...

AFAIK the match is on Ricardo
This Saturday..PlayChess Engine Room
winner take all

the Mark VI is the only upgrade to the Mark V and was about 25 Elo stronger then the Mark V
it also contained drivers to enable the Sensor board attachment to be used

In Heavy Training Regards
