At the end of day 2 Hiarcs, Rybka and Junior all have 2.5/3. Only 1 game tomorrow starting at 8 local time. The Hiarcs game will start at 9 as the mobile phone can not get here till then. Our new playing room is much better - more pictures will follow soon. Rybka is running on a cluster and at 1 point declared mate in over 1900 moves - the problem was that the position was drawn - a photo of the screen will follow also.

A match between this monster and a 'normal' octa at longer time controls (40/120) would be interesting. This would give us a feeling if higher depths still give a noticable improvement in the play quality.Dylan Sharp wrote:What? 40 cores and Rybka still doesn't know about the 50move rule?Harvey Williamson wrote:Rybka is running on a cluster and at 1 point declared mate in over 1900 moves - the problem was that the poition was drawn -
After our match against the fishes it felt as if most 'serious' games nowadays should be draws...

Hans van der Zijden the Rybka operator is writing a diary in Dutch - he has offered to translate and share it with us. here is part 1:
Saturday 27:
Although my plane left on fridaynight, it was already saturday in China. Just before boarding, I see Johan de Koning. Nice, I have someone to talk to in the plane. Johans suitcase was already on an earlier flight, but apparantly there was no more room for Johan. At the baggageclaim the suitcase was nowhere in sight. And of course he had put on his ugliest T-shirt (with ventilationholes under the armpits). We can only hope he doesn't have to wear it for 10 days. The taxiride of 60 km, was very special. We considered ourselves lucky no accidents occurred. And the chauffeur only had to look 5 times on the written instructions in chinese and he had found the hotel. Inside we found very helpful staff. Too bad they hardly speak english. But with a little patience more and more staff would gather and soon their combined knowledge of the english language was sufficient to understand you. Later we had a nice meal for only 6 pounds. It is quite cheap here. Then I went to my hotelroom. Have to get up early tomorrow. Don't forget to wake up Johan tomorrow. His alarm is still in his suitcase.

Some more visual coverage of the WCCC
Hey folks,
didn't I promise there would be more pictures to follow?
Here we go with some stuff from Day 2 and some more from the opening ceremony:
Right here you can see the tournament director Jaap van den H. with Johanna Hellemons and David Levy (on the right)
Here from left to right: The author of Deep Blue, David Levy and Jaap van den H.
A look at the Chinese tourists at the opening ceremony:
Here we go with a look at the old playing hall:
Now I will provide you with some pictures of the games:
1st of course our beloved Hiarcs, which plays here vs. Cluster Toga. Harvey seems quite happy at this moment, wonder what he may have thought of?
Once more Hiarcs, this time at Round 3 with Black pieces vs. Falcon, who is using the book of Erdo. On the right Omid's Professor Nathan Netanyahu
Jonny vs Deep Junior from Round 3:
Shredder vs Junior from round 1, which is always a match of two great engines, that are in computer chess since a long time:
Last but not least I am going to present you the infamous mate score of Rybka, where it says Mate in 1942:
The really last picture for now, is showing all together at the dinner in the hotel in the evening:
I hope you enjoyed this coverage.
More to come soon hopefully.
Regards,
Sebi

Great photo's. One comment on the first photo: the lady between Mr. Jaap van den Herik and Mr. David Levy is Johanna Hellemons and not the wife of Mr. van den Herik.
And about this 'Mate in 1942' (Leningrader opening?) I have seen somthing equal already in Rybka 2.3. On my single core laptop it showed two lines, one mate in 11 and the second line showed mate in 136.
