How many of us are there?

Post by DaMaBu »

I've long wondered how many people throughout the world share an interest in computer chess. For example, does anyone know of any estimates for how many users of HCE there are? Or how many buyers does Millennium expect the Mephisto Phoenix to have? Just wondering.

Frederic Friedel said that there are 50 in Germany.

Registered users belong to the registered users group on this forum. There are currently 4,322 members in this group. I guess that is an estimate.

I would more say - maximum. I have been on the forum since 2015 because of the open discussion in English about chess computers. I acquired the HCE this year due to the anticipation of the PRO version.

Scally hello. I viewed your list of dedicated chess computers, impressive. They must have cost you a pretty penny!
How do you store them? How many do you have out at one time? Do you play chess against all of them?

Hi Celadus,

I normally have 1 out at a time, but It depends on what I’m working on.

I can have more than 1 out if I play them against each other.

At the moment my Revelation II is out as Picochess has taken off again. We now have Windows 32bit engines running on Picochess via wine and box86, next up is 64bit Picochess to be able to run Windows 64bit binaries.

The Phoenix should arrive this Month and Elfacun v2 too, where I’ll be able to run 2 Mephisto systems or 2 Picochess systems against each other on the same board.

Busy, Busy, Busy …

Well as far as the number of collectors of dedicated chess computers....
my guess would be no more then 150-200 worldwide
with 75% in Europe and the rest scattered around the globe
