I went to Zundert in the Netherlands over the weekend to operate Hiarcs in the tournament. I am pleased to say we won it with a score of 9/10

It surprises me that they don't participate in programs that are significantly stronger than Hiarcs and there are not a few of them. RofChade 3.0 is one of them though, it's a very strong program, congratulations.

It was an open tournament played over the board with the machines operated by each programming team. The CSVN computer tournaments are the longest running computer chess tournaments in existence with this being the 58th. If memory serves me they were running in the 1980s.

These tournaments are different to matches played from set positions, the games begin from the standard opening position and so preparation and book play are important decisions just like in human chess.

The cross table and the games played by our new engine can be seen and played through here: https://www.hiarcs.com/games/csvn58/csvn58.html

Many thanks to Harvey Williamson who went to The Netherlands and operated HIARCS throughout the tournament.
Best wishes,
Mark

Hi Harvey,

Nice job …

I remember the days when I used to operate the Mephisto’s for Eric Hallsworth of Countrywide Computers in Chess tournaments …

You can write what opening book was used while playing the program.

Why was 1. b3 played in some games? In my Hiarcs book, b3 is not a recommended move.

Is it possible to make this book available for testing the engine Deep Hiarcs 15.3.1 ?
