Re: How strong is this program supposed to be?
I am running Sigma 6.1 Lite on HIARCS 12.1MP on an Intel MacBook OS 10.4.11. I thought this program was supposed to play at Grandmaster strength but the games I have played against it have been disappointing. I just played a game and it took the computer 59 moves to mate me. I am not that strong a ...

This is not about odds, it's about the same rules being applied to everyone. By your definition then there is already a handicap since all engines do not use the same algorithms. As I said before, Rybka Cluster is not being Handicaped, it is not being allowed to play. I think Uri Blass said it best...

Though Hiarcs did not have its fair share of luck, I think Hiarcs performance was very impressively until something went wrong in the last game. Even during the last game I thought Hiarcs just was sailing though and that the issue was if it would end at a score of 7.0/9 (unshared 2nd place) or 6.5/9...

To me g6 just looks wrong and goes against standard chess theory. The traditional human view is that g6 is weakening the king position prematurely. The traditional view is the its usually best to postpone creating the weakness. I would definitely be very reluctant in playing 22.-,g6 I am also concer...

Good we moved! I would have also have voted 21.-Bd8 . My main line is 22. Rg3 Bb6 23. Qxb4 Qa7 24.Bxb6 Nxb6 25. Bb5 Qa2+ 26. Kc1 and now I think 26.-Na4! holds for black. The line 26... d5 27. exd5 Nd6 28. Qxd6 Rfc8+ looks good for black but white can sacrifice the Queen with 29.Qc6 and black is wor...

even if I think 15...a4 is safer for black, I vote for 15...Bxb3 too... sometimes like in bridge you have to bluff in chess too (I am confident white won't play the best moves :-)) Eros. Why do you think 15.-Bxb3 bluffing??? 15.-a4 is highly complicated and a true hair raising wilderness that not s...
