Using a fixed iteration depth does not do what you might think, firstly it is NOT a fixed depth of search, it is a fixed iteration depth where each engine will search beyond that depth in different ways to seek quiescent positions. Some will explore only captures, others will explore captures and c...

Hi, There is a build of Komodo for the Mac. When you purchase Komodo direct from the authors (as opposed to buying the Chessbase version) you get the Windows, Linux, Mac and Android versions all as a bundle. And I'm happy to report that it works flawlessly in HCE, as far as I can tell. HTH I'd be v...

play against fixed ply depth?
I think ChessKing 4 allows you to constrain the engine to look ahead only a fixed number of moves and I think that would be a very good training tool (for me). I had a quick look around Hiarcs Chess Explorer for Macintosh for something similar and couldn't find it. Can you constrain Hiarcs to a fixe...

which engine plays most "human" style?
The reason I originally purchased Hiarcs was because I thought it played the most human style game and my experience has been generally good as far as that goes. I recently heard a GM say that Rybka & Houdini played a more "human" style than other engines. really? So that's my question...

are engine ELO levels self-consistent?
Whether Hiarcs ELO compare to FIDE or USCF ratings I wonder if they correspond to themselves as expected? For instance, does Hiarcs playing at 1800 win 64% of games against Hiarcs playing at 1700 but 76% of games against Hiarcs playing at 1600? I may be wrong about the exact percentages but I hope c...

change definition of "error" in analysis explorer?
Can you define the definition of "error" in analysis explorer? For instance, if I only want to see blunders resulting in -/+2.9 pawns or -/+4.9 pawns, can I do that?

But Chess games being rather static displays won't enjoy the benefits of the extra graphic processing power. I just looked at Hiarcs on a new iPad and everything is razor sharp EXCEPT the pieces !!! Yes , the new display is so amazingly good that by comparison the edges of the pieces look fuzzy com...

The new ipad3 has twice the resolution of IPad2 I think the new iPad has twice the number of horizontal pixels and twice the number of vertical pixels... so wouldn't the resolution increase by 4X ? It would be nice to hear from Mark or other Hiarcs devs about what to expect. Will there be an update...

Nobody really knows which resolution the next screen will have ... so I think any discussion about this is just pure speculation ... Whether existing graphics will automatically scale up to utilize improved graphics isn't necessarily dependent on exactly which resolution the next screen will...

hiarcs resolution on iPad 3 ?
Hi, I'm going to buy an iPad 3 when it's released and wonder if Hiarcs graphics will automatically scale up to take advantage of the anticipated increase in screen resolution of iPad 3 vs. iPad 2 ? Apparently many iPad apps can do this, but I'm not sure about that... OR ... will a new version of iPa...
