Re: Russian Electronic Chess Board 2009
... it is still a lovely designed electronic chess board. ... Agreed, with the squares being a bit too small in my eyes, or vice versa, the pieces being a bit too big. I like seeing enough of the squares' colours around a piece while playing otherwise I don't feel well. The design of that Russian e...

Re: Daily Chess Puzzle
@ssynaasy: Just one or two thoughts to your post. It is also that what I discovered while playing friends. Chess is a fight of life and death, you've got to defeat your friend, and if you win it can make your friend angry. That's the reason why I never play against friends any more. Joining puzzle p...

Re: Mephisto Risc 1MB
Certainly a good deal. A well-balanced electronic chessboard for every aspect of the game. Better than mine (Atlanta). Enjoy!

Re: Chess960 vs Standard chess
Interestingly, in Magnus Carlsen's and other top players' closer environment this kind of chess is always called the "Fischer Random", as if they preferred to hear of and speak of the name of that famous American World Chess Champion over pronouncing that number 960.

Re: New -> train with a chess computer
Which old or new board chess computer userfriendly would you advice for such training? I myself own a Mephisto Atlanta the performance of which is at around 2200 elo points which is - for average users like me - very strong. However, there are a lot more devices on the market that do the job as wel...

Re: New -> train with a chess computer
I find this way of thinking easier to know if you are on the right track when training. This is whether you analyse a position, doing puzzles, analysing games or whatever. Or even when playing rapid/blitz, if played with full intensity it could be a way of training your thinking speed. Only, don't ...

Re: New -> train with a chess computer
In general, the learning start when you are out of your comfort zone (Rowson?). To improve you need to connect neurons in your brain, this is only done by hard thinking. Blitz and rapid are only for making use of your earlier connections (intuition). Certainly, well and at the same time funnily exp...

Re: ChessBase: The wonderful world of chess machine emulators
Ok then, here is the real device. But unlike the emulation it will be expensive for someone. https://www.ebay.de/itm/294403710513?hash=item448bd41e31:g:GkYAAOSwte5hRi-B L 400 Euros is a very good start. I'm curious where it'll end. The Atlanta is a good chess companion and worth buying. It's far to...

Re: Difficult move found by Atlanta
Yes, Atlanta does, fourthirty. After 32. ... b3, 33. axb3 it turns from 33. ... Nxb3+ quickly to 33. ... Nb4.
The position is a true bonanza of interesting tactical possibilities that I haven't examined fully yet and a good exercise for occasional players like me.

Re: Machines already 40 years old
This is true with many other things people use in their daily lives. There are toys from childhood that are ages old but never get crinkles and still work - sometimes in contrast with their owner. What were you dreaming in your heart when you bought your chess devices? Were you thinking of doing a l...
